The Final Day

A blinding flash of light confused the ranger. As he began to regain his focus the ranger felt his feet sink into the mud, a mighty yaulp then boomed thru the air of the karanas. Unable to move his feet the ranger began to search with his eyes as he began to raise his bow. Suddenly his arms froze, his nerves stunned by a shock of holy might.

Appearing through the mist, a flame of light struck the ranger and caused him to wince in pain. The ranger tracked a figure coming towards him. The ranger blinked several times, he glimpsed a ghost. The ranger reached into his quiver and unleashed arrow shots aimed true to his target.

The ghost had felt the first arrows glancing off his armor and summoned his aura before they crippled him severely. As his aura faded and faint traces of blood seeped from under his armor the ghost waved his hands across his body and his wounds faded away.
The ghost marched closer and would be in melee range before the ranger could dig himself out of the mud.

The ranger had one last chance for escape, he closed his eyes and recited the incantation, the center of his body began to glow. The ranger could sense the air warming with electricity knowing his escape would soon be secured. The ranger opened his eyes and horror appeared on his face, The warmth he felt in the air was a mighty weapon covered in fire ready to avenge the wielder. The ghost raised his sword preparing to strike, his face revealed at last, devoid of emotion and white as the snows covering the wastelands. The ranger gasped “ impossible, the fallen have arisen “.

The ranger knew his fate but still steeled his skin for the final blow. The flaming sword sliced thru the ranger’s leathery skin inflicting irreparable damage. The ghost whispered “ you forced me down from my pantheon, feel the pain of holy fire, I will not grant you a merciful touch of death.” The ranger laying mortally wounded reached into his satchel, he grasped some stones and hurled them at the feet of the ghost while thru clenched teeth he spit out his final words. “ I am sorry you . . .”

The gods had spoken. The ranger was vanquished and banished for eternity from the mortal plains of Antonica. In the most ill reputed taverns one can hear the bards still sing of this infamous ranger wandering a giant tomb of dragons.
