Mouse macro's

So i just had this conversation with someone in game where he tells me he uses his mouse macro buttons to do certain things. He declares its "legal" because "all mice have had buttons since 2000's". I'm like ya...no I am fairly certain its not allowed, however I am willing to be wrong and corrected.

I assume any outside the game macro for triggering keyboard command keys is out?

one of the buttons is bound to the w key which makes me run
