You probably need admin permissions on your computer, or you might have it set to read-only for some reason.

(This applies to Windows 7 and Vista, though the How-To might be a little different in Vista)

First, right click on eqhost.txt and choose Properties. At the bottom, there should be a check box that says "Read Only"... make sure it's unchecked.

Next, click on the "Security" tab, choose your login Username and click Edit to change permissions. In the window that pops up, just check all the boxes.

That should do it.

Also, a possibly easier solution is just to move your Everquest directory out of the Program Files directory. You can just cut and paste the entire thing, it won't hurt anything.

Sounds like you're running Vista or Windows 7 and have Everquest installed in the Program Files folder. Quickest fix is to find your shortcut to Notepad, right-click it, then choose "Run as Administrator". Then just go to File -> Open and locate eqhosts.txt.

If I'm wrong on the OS and/or folder, then there may be other steps.

Oh, if you do move your directory, you'll have to remake your eqgame.exe shortcut, of course (as it will still point to the old directory).

And yeah, "Run as Administrator" is another work-around.

Thank you I will try that. I'm at work right now but will test it later. I was getting pretty Frustrated last night, and yes I'm running Win7 x64.

Move to desktop.
