It all comes down to which people would rather do less:
  • risk losing items they spent tens or even hundreds of hours earning
or:
  • interact with a stranger for two minutes and ask them for a small favor
I think it says a lot about the kind of people who play this game that so many (myself included) often choose the first option.

I didn't see it mentioned here, and may not be completely public knowledge, but if you do a : /camp server

that will take you directly back to a login screen without having to click exit from char select screen and server select screens, it helps on account swaps.

You would be surprised at some of the high end items players just drop to the ground for transfers. Sure, there may be a chance at you getting your items back if they poof and aren't picked up, but there's inherent risk. Maybe that's what makes it appealing to some players [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
Love the rush when ground transfering a fungi.

Also /fastdrop on/off is really helpful for mas transferring multiple low value items. Also /autoinventory when the item is on your cursor is a good way of quickly picking up said items.

Just always remember to turn fastdrop off once you're done dropping the items.

I had this problem and switching to xp sp 2 (instead of sp3) compatibility mode fixed my crashing on camp issues.
I was on SP3 and switched to SP2. Been switching all morning just to test this out and never crashed all morning, also fixed a weird resolution issue.

Kinda fixed the issue I was having. Before I camp, crash but get locked out for like a minute before being able to log back in and now that shit is just gone.

Items don't 'poof' on any kind of timescale that makes drop transfers problematic. They get stolen, but you can control for that.

One time I ground transferred an Adamantite Club in Lake of Ill Omen's newbie yard. Llandris is right, I did it for the thrill. Of course, if I was transferring something of actual consequence I would find someone to transfer it for me. 3-4k items are probably about my limit.

On Live back when you could drop coins I went to a secluded place and dropped all I had for my new toon to pick up. Classic being classic, login went down or something and I couldn't get back in. Lost my life's savings.

This is July 1999, so it was probably around 50 plat.
