I'm going to open myself up for some serious scrutiny and say that I play EQ with arrow keys and leave A for auto attack. I'm all over the place in game.
I play FPS games with the number pad and the keys around it because there are more good keys accessible by more parts of my hand. It sucks rebinding a lot of games so I often think of being a WASD normie just to be lazy and use default controls.

I've come to this iteration after a few decades, been playing since 1999 for real.
FPSers tend to prefer wasd becuz ctrl is right there and the modifier keys are more easily accessible. and it eventually became the fps default. I would play a certain way for many years, or months, then sit down and spend an entire weekend working on new binds. I think the first thing I do when I open a game up is go into the menu and change stuff to were I like, sometimes I wish games had blank binds-so that no keys were bound anywhere except the ones i expressly pick. I don't need a keybind to look at my talent tree in wow (i actually have a bind for that tho) Same thing with the book, dont' really need a bind, we have to mouse click the spells to mem them anyway. Eq can totally be played without re-binding anything, and that is awesome as well. It does work with default keysetup.

I use ESDF instead of WASD. Putting the forward movement key on the upper row is preferred since middle finger is longer than index or ring fingers. Using single row results in fingers getting sore more quickly.
I leave the arrow keys bound too for when I want to steer with the right hand. No reason not to leave it. Danth

ESDF at the very least is way better than WASD leaving more for your pinky to activate. WASD is pretty bad.

I think my pinky is underdeveloped i almost never use it lol, i got weeeek pinky
my pointer finger, is the strongest one the pokey one between thumb and middle i can punch a key pretty hard with that. A big pro- of esdf and wasd are that they are easier to run and gun with, with asdf i have to sometimes take my fingers off my a or d key or strafe keys (s f) and that can be a bit of a delay but it's not bad enough in an mmo so far to worry about it i honestly haven't done much eq jousting with asdf to tell for certain

I think holding forward and using left or right with ASDF will suck for strafe.

I think using WASD is better than people like me who use mostly the arrows with left or right hand depending on situation. Sometimes using right hand to cross over and do spell keys, sometimes moving with mouse and using left hand to do other keybinds. Overall, genius.
