What's funny is when Conservatives bash on Liberals.

The bulk of Conservatives are Liberals.

"Conservative" is short for "Conservative Liberal".

Freedom of speech, freedom of the press, expression, religion. Due process, and yes, even gun rights are all part of Liberal philosophy and society

It wasn't a lie from the government. People started calling Leftists "Liberal" in the 60s because they were socially liberal. Live and let live left Libertarian hippies.

"Liberal" can mean left or right. Just like "Authoritarian" can be left or right.

But I agree with you that we shouldn't call them Liberal. The most polite catch-all name should be "Progressive" or "Hitlers who pretend to care about people".
