Default Until January 2000 era, 39+ pets regenerated much faster

I saw several references to this while searching for mage water pet regen posts.

Nerf timing:

[Sat Jan 29 00:28:17 2000] I have 55 percent of my hit points left.
[Sat Jan 29 00:28:29 2000] You say to your guild, 'nerfed pet regen from
3tick to 1tick'
[Sat Jan 29 00:28:38 2000] I have 59 percent of my hit points left.
[Sat Jan 29 00:28:40 2000] I have 60 percent of my hit points left.

Confirmation that it used to be better:

I have heard that our pets get super-regen at level 39, even if they
have burnout on them.

P.S. The level 39,and up pets regen at an absolutely phenomenal rate
(really, you can't even imagine how fast until you see it. It's
disgustingly fast). My pets will heal from near dead to full health
faster than I can recover 2 bubbles of mana. It's pretty amazing. I
don't mind one ending the fight near death at all.

Leaving this here for now and I will come back to it later tonight to search more.

Have you checked on green how it works? Cause 39+pets do regenerate incredibly fast right now. At least hey did a couple months back.

Don't have access to a 39+ pet class I'm afraid. If anyone does please chime in [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Does your pet regen 3% hp per tick? If not, what does it regen?

Mage Compendium's "old" pet chart has 30hp/tick regen starting at level 39th pets. So I probably jumped the gun making this thread. I had the baby wake up and didn't want to lose my progress [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Still not sure why that necro says his regen was nerfed. Will check more into that to make sure I'm not missing anything.

He also said the pet was attacking itself, so maybe it was a temp issue?

Yes I have reread this a few times since, and I'm pretty sure this was a temporary bug after a patch that was quickly fixed.

Found a corroboration via a Brad post on the same day, via a Taiwanese site that I had open for other reasons:

Quote:
2000/01/31 Monday

On the official forum, EQ producer Brad McQuaid provided an update on the Necromancer’s pet survey:

Ok, the following is the result of our investigation of the Necromancer's changes:
  • As mentioned in the update file message, weapon speed no longer helps pets when holding swords in both hands.
  • It is not our intention to change the recovery speed of pets. If this is true, we will fix it as soon as possible. If anyone has it, we need more data to prove that this is true. We have not seen any evidence that this is true.
  • After casting the spell, the pet attacking itself is a confirmed bug, which will be corrected in the next update file.

Although this has been said many times, I repeat it again:

We must take the server offline and perform an emergency update because of a bug that caused the server to crash. To fix the bug, we need to transfer the test server code, including untested changes.

This does not happen very often, but there is a downside to performing emergency updates. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

This was just an unintended change that they quickly fixed.
