the main purpose of college is to show you have the ability to learn "something" and stick to it at an acceptable level.

kergan you are a dumbass if you think college is worthless. its definitely not needed but its not worthless.

I never went to a tradeschool, im just fuckin smart as fuck and everything I do in life I do pretty well. I dont know why maybe good genes.

The main reason I'm in college is because i came from a dirt poor family and I get so many grants and scholarships i seriously get tuition and books completely paid for and some extra. so technically I get paid to go to college from the fed gov. I have no loans and I dont need any. I work while I'm in school and can afford to pay my own bills because I dont spend a lot of money, im usually on EQ or with g/f in my spare time. I started in a community college got an associates degree in science now i transferred to Old Dominion University. Still everything paid for by the fed gov and more.
Starting in a lower class household and moving on up to middle class, brings a tear to my eye.

You're what, late 20s/early 30s? Still in college leaching off of the government.

You sound like a total fucking genius.
27, Should I be ashamed for working for 5 years instead of starting school right away? I did quite a bit of different lines of work in those 5 years and saved a decent amount of money in the end.

I often wish I had gotten a real job and taught myself some discipline, learned that many jobs you get without a degree suck ass so I would have had more motivation in college.

Props to getting free college. My parents made enough money "on paper" so i didnt get financial aid but didnt really have close to enough money to pay for my college.

No you shouldn't be ashamed. But you also shouldn't be posting what a smart individual you are either, because what you did was not at all smart. You destroyed your long term earning potential, and good fucking luck to you when you're competing with people either 5 years younger or the same age with 5 years more experience for the rest of your entire life.

Being a 28/29 year old entry level whatever-job is bad, and dumb. But maybe you'll find some small company that needs one of their scientists (or whatever the hell you're aspiring to be) to unclog the shitter now and then so that your plumbing experience will give you a real advantage.
