I got banned from /ooc last night for telling a joke, and then explaining to EuMOANia that /ooc actually means OUT OF CHARCTER and not actually what she thinks its does.

Frankly, Red is the only reason why I'm still playing this emu.

And the only reason I'm playing still playing on Red is precisely because it's full of nutjobs, psychopaths, and various other malcontents and degenerates... who sometimes do say strange things out of character. But that's part of the charm. Logging into Red is like walking into a seedy dive bar on the bad side of town and wondering how many beers you can drink before someone stabs you.

As a new player on this server, /ooc is a nonstop tutorial and a window into the community. You don't have that shit on blue, you have thousands of nameless and faceless pixels running around chasing merbs all day saying "Sow plz, thx" and running away. That was half my interaction on blue, and the other half was nerdrage tells, from someone I'd never seen or heard of, about something being camped. Sorry broski, I'm not here to steal your fucking gnoll champion, I just logged out here last night. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

When I'm running around on Red and I come across toons, there's a good chance I actually already know of them. I know if they're a douchebag or unstable. I know if they're kind to new players. I know who they hate, who their friends are, what guild they're in, and much of what they're doing.

It's a good thing to recognize the names and personas of characters I come across, and /ooc is what makes that possible. It's the hub of the community. It facilitates the transmission of actual human personality into a game world that is relatively stale at this point.

Without that human touch, you might as well play Minesweeper or go outside or some shit.
I had thought about making a post identical to this. So THANKS thug! Saved me alot of time.

I hope the people with the power to change this read this thread. This rule is fucking terrible. I have also recently joined in the last few weeks and see nothing positive from this.

I did get a kick out of the LFG when YT pops. We all chimed in even though we had a full CoM group. Luuuuuuulz can't hold us down Eunomia.

Its sad that once again, it seems history will repeat itself here. Pretty much everyone in the community understands its a bad move, except the staff. We will get ignored for months, people will stop logging in, pop will drop and then way too late someone is going to react and correct the obvious mistake, pop will take some time to climb again, and box will have lost some players that will never come back. Nerfing xp to "raise pop", xp loss in pvp, etc etc etc

You didn't understand?

Global chat is not a personal chat channel.

Global chat is used to communicate with the community for NEEDS such as LFG, Auction, Guild Recruitment, ports

Fulfill your personal chat needs in guild, group, or tells.
Had a few friends start here, left shortly after at seeing the shit show ooc was. It was basically just trolling, people looking for attention/approval, and people spouting worn out catch phrases.

Thanks Eunomia, I actually have ooc on in an open window now.

You should be hazed off this site forever if you actually condone this shit. If your friends couldn't handle OOC they would never have lasted on RED let alone BLUE.

I'll be looking forward to you answering my petitions in the near future.

It's not about not handling it, it's about people not wanting to spend their time playing a 15+ year old game if they have to be immersed constantly in the bullshit of others.

Problem is if I have to explain to someone why, not seeing a wall of ooc garbage and whining and 30 year old children crying for attention is good for the server, then you probably wouldn't get it anyway.

EQ1 doesn't draw the multitudes of players you might think.
