I'm glad I was able to get this image from another angle. So everyone has seen the image of these destroyed apartment buildings, very emblematic and iconic. Mostly from the front though.

But look at this angle and check out the area I circled.

That's a destroyed Russian mechanized column.

The Russians were advancing down that street towards those apartment buildings. They started taking fire. While not a great location for ATGM fire, those apartment buildings certainly could have been used as bases for small arms or sniper fire.

Accordingly the Russians called for fire support and withdrew under the cover of artillery fire, leaving their advance elements a jumbled pile of scrap.

Edit: it's also possible the Russians called in an airstrike just to punish that area after the ambush. Who knows. But there was fighting taking place just a block away.
