I'd say it really depends on your level but just strive to get a decent mana pool (via +int to 200, then mana) and then decent HP. You want to get it to a point where you don't overflow your tiny HP pool with your lifetap over time spells.

Get the inexpensive good int gear like stein of moggok, oracle or advisor robe etc, then spend your money on good hp gear. You definitely want 55hp rings, hooded black cloak, BS neck, and a decent main/offhander to go with your stein.

Invest in a Circlet of Shadow. They're cheap (around 2.5-3k) and worth it once you hit 20. Otherwise, as a necro you don't NEED much gear to be effective, but hit points = mana at the end of the day so start there.

Oh, yeah totally true. Also, you might want to consider buying a jboots MQ, as having them is super helpful while kiting. As he said, you don't really need a ton of gear to level a necro well. 55hp rings, basic int gear and those two things and you're set until you can farm plat for other things.

starting a necro eh?

first buy 55hp/5ac rings

then CoS for 2-3k

then buy any and all cheap int or hp gear (or str for a 3rd stat)

gear toon for little to nothing and save plat.

Farm shit while also getting THE BEST solo xp in game (no other class can do this early on)

Profit.

Hit up bubbles (aka miley) or me (aka Stealin) in game for more tips/tricks yo.

Circlet of Shadow 2k
Jboots MQ 5.325k
2 5/55 rings 500pp
two golden jade bracelets 2ac 15hp/mana (50pp?)
Runed Cowl 750pp (9int hat)
Braided Cinch cord 300pp (ish)
Batskull Earrings (5int) ???pp can't be much these days 250 per?

That's just under 10k right there

Stein of Moggok 300pp
Sacrificial Dagger 100pp
Gatorscale Sleeves/Embroided Black Sleeves 200pp
Embroided Black Cape 200pp
Sapphire Platinum Neck (7str 7int) cant be more than like what 350pp?
Advisor Robe for sure, 200pp or so
Dagger of Manerk 200pp
silversilk leggins 3 copper

And blow the rest on bone chips and weight reduction bags.

Can't reccomend the jboots highly enough, it's the most useful necro item out there, only the CoS compares.

Can go human or erudite and score a bunch of flayed skin armor really cheap. Almost forgot to add that. Erudite has pretty nice faction and a ton of INT. solid choice. Unless you really like lizards or something.
