Its really not the OP's fault...the rules on camps are well established and you can't really expect a new player to know them without learning the hard way. most players don't read the rules, don't spend time on the forums, don't understand how petitions get worked out, etc...
the op is wrong. while it is intuitive in some sense to think that you are next for a camp merely by being present and waiting for the current person holding it to leave it just doesn't work that way on p99. functionally, the person holding the camp can hand it to whomever he wants. yes, there are some rules that create some intermediary steps to that hand-off (and ways that you can fumble the hand-off), but at the end of the day thats pretty much how it will work. if you want a camp that someone is holding you can ask who is next. the person holding the camp has to answer you with the truthful answer (no way to really prevent lying or sneakiness here). if they tell you you are next then you are...when they leave you own the camp and a GM will rule in your favor if you end up petitioning. if they give you a name of someone else when you ask who is next then that player is the next camp holder. that player doesn't need to be in zone or online in order to be next on the list. when the player holding the camp is done this player is now the camp holder --- he will lose the right to the camp if the PH/NAMED spawns and is up for a short period of time --- usually 2 minutes, but I believe GMs have ruled variously depending on the camp, players, other variables that has made that reasonable time slightly flexible. Now here is the part that is even more sketchy...the new player holding the camp can create a NEW LIST. the result is that unless that player specifically tells you you are next then you won't get the camp next. at the end of the day the player holding the camp can functionally hand it to whomever he wants as long as he 1) doesn't "fumble" the hand off by dying, letting a PH sit up for a few minutes, etc or 2) being dishonest (lying about the item dropping, making a fake name up for who is next on the list, etc (but I really can't imagine how you enforce this as a player ---the most you can do is petition and let a GM check --- but the amount of time this would take for a player and wasted time for a GM is considerable). there might be some heavy hitters that are worth petitioning (like someone corpsing jboot rings for days on end)...but short of that if someone wants to be a dick (and they know the rules) there isn't much you can do about it. | ||
