If your files up to date, it should give you the option to launch Everquest anyway no? It does for me. If that doesn't work, try DuxUI all in one or whatever its called

the launcher isn't running the updater for me and when it gives me the option to run the game anyway, it says my files are out of date when i know they aren't.

I helped someone else fix this issue and his virus software kept removing the .dll file. Not sure of his virus software but I assumed it had an update and that file got flagged. Try to manually drag and drop the files and then either run a shortcut created or with wineq2.
Edit: either disable the virus software or make the file bypassed by your virus software.

Same thing here API- Can't connect. .dll file is there.. was working fine last night. Bypass the Launcher, Go to eqgame.exe and put in the target window >patchme < Example : "E:\Program Files\Everquest\eqgame.exe" patchme
