True story:
About 30 years ago, we were coming back to the States from a European vacation. When we stopped in LaGuardia, the woman in front of us was this 70-odd-year-old Italian woman, probably from some rural area, who had never in her life seen an escalator. She was scared to death and wasn't getting on or letting anyone on. Stepdad picked her up by her smelly, sweaty, hairy armpits and planted her on it. Don't know what she was saying to him after this, but it was about as un-pretty as she was. And her funk lingered on his hands for a while.
