There are a number of merchants who sell backpacks.

Try using the wiki to find some in qeynos: wiki.project1999.org

if you are a caster or any character with low strength, I would suggest using a large sewing kit instead. They weigh far less and have the same number of lots, they are just more expensive (about a plat? i think)

Large sewing kit also holds 'giant' items, Backpacks only hold 'large'.

Large Sewing Kits weigh 0.4 lbs, compared to 3.0 per Backpack

In Qeynos, there are a few free bag options depending on your faction.

Wolten Grafe gives you a 6 slot container for collecting bones.
Vicus Nonad gives you a 10 slot container for collecting taxes.
Daedet Losaren gives you a 6 slot container for collecting donations.

etc.

These are all obtainable before leaving the city. <3 Qeynos.

Large Sewing Kits > backpacks. Slightly more expensive IIRC (1p+change instead of 5GP+change), but totally worth it in weight savings and ability to carry larger loot.

And if this was Classic we'd say, "but don't get them because if you hit Combine, everything in there will disappear."

<3 Qeynos.
It has a definite charm that I have always found lacking in FP.
