There are a number of merchants who sell backpacks.
Try using the wiki to find some in qeynos: wiki.project1999.org if you are a caster or any character with low strength, I would suggest using a large sewing kit instead. They weigh far less and have the same number of lots, they are just more expensive (about a plat? i think)

Large sewing kit also holds 'giant' items, Backpacks only hold 'large'.

Large Sewing Kits weigh 0.4 lbs, compared to 3.0 per Backpack

In Qeynos, there are a few free bag options depending on your faction.
Wolten Grafe gives you a 6 slot container for collecting bones. Vicus Nonad gives you a 10 slot container for collecting taxes. Daedet Losaren gives you a 6 slot container for collecting donations. etc. These are all obtainable before leaving the city. <3 Qeynos. | ||

Large Sewing Kits > backpacks. Slightly more expensive IIRC (1p+change instead of 5GP+change), but totally worth it in weight savings and ability to carry larger loot.
