Do you know how bow/arrow damage are calculated?

Long answer, no. A trueshot discing ranger will want the best damage possible. For pulling purposes, you won't probably see much of a difference. If I get around to it, I'll do some tests with 1 vs 3 vs 6 dmg arrows.

How sure are you about this? My contention was that the Shadewoods were added in Luclin. A quick classic questing session pulled this up:

Choices are Hickory, Elm, Ashwood, Oak, Darkwood, and as of Dec 2001, Shadewood, arranged in order of degree of difficulty and final potency. The staff material determines the base range, damage, and delay of the final bow.

Yep... Looking at those vendors, it's Luclin. I *thought* the bow staves were foraged in Velious, which are actually for the Blessed Faydark bows (never happening either). Double grr.. NM on good melee bows!
