I derive immense amusement from this guy's explosive failure. Ever since he presented himself as a total douchebag while simultaneously promising greatness only to deliver a disaster, I've made a hobby out of watching him and his server collapse.

Kegz = Toop, a former P99 player who was known to be extremely stupid and later for getting himself banned. He then vowed to make his own server, and the rest is history. Hilarious, satisfying history.

It's a Velious box for Divinity and Blades of Wrath at this point. Except Blades of Wrath is finally absorbing Divinity. So really it's just 1 big guild on the server and a few casual guildless folks.

Armor gems are still not dropping enough and are non-existent in areas that they should be plentiful. Nobody does Thurg quests because of this. Certain encounters are severely under-powered such as Zlandicar. I don't think he has AoE'd a single time for any Blades of Wrath kills. Divinity has claimed he casts them occasionally but I've never seen one.

Despite the name "The Sleeper", this server doesn't even HAVE the zone Sleepers implemented. It is simply not there.

I mean.. take it for what it is and have fun if Velious is your thing and you can make raids with BoW. They're a pretty good group of people. Shoot Hiing a tell if he's on about joining. He's leader atm and he's a pretty good guy.

If you're into farming ToV I know they're hitting up HoT a bit for armor. They also farm Idol / Vindi, Zlandi, Klandi, Kunark Dragons including Trak and some other shit I can't think of. However, I wouldn't recommend attempting to play here any more if you're a casual gamer looking for lots of dungeon grinds. There is nobody below level 50 to play with a majority of the time.

Funnily the main reason I never went back was because I got locked out of my forum account and the process to retrieve/change password was broken. Without ForumQuesting my interest in the server quickly waned (on top of stupidly slow XP rates to the point of futility, the "beta testing" actually being done on the server going live, and as mentioned, a drama queen running the circus).

Keep it P99 folks, people moan and whine but this is the closest you'll get to classic :)

If the cheating thing is true at all (and I'd be more inclined to believe that it's just Kegz' excuse for abandoning the server), it's most likely because he's so inept and unintelligent that he couldn't figure out any form of anti-hacking. We asked him in late beta and his answer was that he had "plans for anti-cheating," but never anything more elaborate than that. Since then, people have been talking about how freely they were able to cheat and how the only way to get caught was to be witnessed in the act. Calling it "undetectable cheats developed specifically for this server" (lmfao) is just his face-saving defense, it's easier to paint yourself a victim of unusual misfortune than accept incompetence.

How to fail at making a server:

Step 1: don't bother doing any beta work, we'll let the players petition in droves when we go live and fix everything later.

Step 2: Opening night is the most important night? Nerf the fuck out of the XP rate so nobody can get above Level 3...that'll make 100s commit to us.

Step 3: GM help? Overrated, get 1 person to do everything.. that should solve any inconsistencies in staffing.

Step 4: Have a forum setup that is hard to look at and deal with. Should stop the trolls coming in, amirite? Also, if anyone loses their password, we'll have it so they can't get it back.

It is a rampant problem. Things are only fixed here after they are brought into the open. There are people who write specifically to circumvent Rogean's .dll. If they successfully beat it then the only Rogean or a GM can detect it is if the hacking is reported. The GM can then manually look at the player in game. As of right now, even after my whole fiasco, there are varying builds of MQ2 that are still undetectable in this regard.

Everyone else has to do it manually, or at least has done it that way up until now. honestly, it is not Toop's fault that a bunch of people feel the need to cheat at EQ, and new servers always attracted the kids that were banned on previous servers.

It needed to be ready on launch night. It was so far from ready when it launched, and they set the XP rate to about 10% of P99 blue's XP rate. Took my iksar monk about an hour and a half to go from level 3-4 killing spiders constantly :p

More servers, more exposure, and more players means better chances of these kind of servers staying around for a very long time.

Sleeper server may be gone, but as far as I know, the guild Blades of Wrath that had formed there got the source from Toop to run their own server. It's called Freeport or something on the list atm. You can log in but it's still in beta phase afaik. Nobody to play with there atm I don't think.

I remember checking out the beta a few months before launch. I logged in and had a look around, but it seemed like a stock PEQ server with nothing visibly changed and plenty of the usual bugs that we know from the stock database. I played the beta for a couple of days and was very confused because they claimed to have been in development for two years, but even the most basic issues weren't fixed. For instance, pretty much all mobs in the game above level 10 had at least twice as much HP as they should.

I posted on the forum and Kegz said it was fixed on some internal patch that they hadn't released yet, along with a bunch of other things. I'd posted a sizeable list of problems I had encountered over the course of a few days and he basically said all of that was fixed internally. I now know that this was just another one of his trademarks: blatant lying and sweeping problems under the rug. When the server launched, not a single thing on my list was fixed.

Another thing that happened during the beta was I noticed that warrior aggro was completely fucked. Like fundamentally broken. Warriors generated more aggro with their melee attacks than other classes, to the point where you would effortlessly hold aggro from anyone by just auto-attacking with shit weapons. Taunt was an infallible aggro-grabber like in WoW, not at all like the real EQ taunt. I posted about this on the forums and Kegz, a self-proclaimed warrior veteran, insisted that warriors never had any problems holding aggro in Everquest and that proccing weapons were never needed by tanks. I categorically proved him wrong and questioned his credentials, and his faithful beta testing crew came out of the woodwork to flame me off the server for confronting Kegz about his obvious lack of EQ knowledge.

I later learned that this was not some coincidence. A lot of people had tried the beta, found it to be utter garbage, posted criticism on the forum and been lynched by Kegz' backpatters. There was a small core of beta testers who were just there to support him and basically shut up anybody who had anything negative to say. It's no wonder the server was so terrible: nothing got fixed, you just got shunned if you said anything other than "everything is fine."

Then the server launched and the rest is history. Nothing worked, it was a complete joke, and Kegz was completely destroying his own work by treating people like shit and throwing insane temper tantrums on other forums. He became the laughing stock of rerolled.org and eventually went full retard, which seemed to have been the catalyst for his decision to pull the plug.

There was also the whole DDoS thing. While it seems that he hasn't been proven guilty without a shadow of a doubt, it seems pretty obvious to me. He had spent the preceding week on a smear-campaign against P99, spamming the rerolled.org forums with veritable propaganda about this server. They had to ban him because he flooded every page of the P99 thread with bullshit insults against the server and everybody who ever played there. Then immediately after he gets banned there, P99 falls victim to DDoS attacks. Then when Kegz is caught and called out on the fact that the attacks originate from his server, he urgently shuts down The Sleeper and is never heard from again. It may not hold up in court, but it seems pretty obvious to me.

And that's the end of today's history lesson on the downfall of Kegz and his hilarious failures. It was a good show to watch, a display of a narcissistic megalomaniac who thought he could create a masterpiece but only managed to completely destroy his own reputation and work.
