View Full Version : Guards in Karanas not Assisting Newbs

The guards in the Karanas (specifically, West Karanas) don't seem to be attacking lions, even when the lions are attacking players. They do, however, take down bandits. Is this some kind of faction issue?

One of the guard towers in West K has evil guards in it. I know the second tower from West to east has guards that will kill anything that moves...except for the werewolf.

It looks like this is in fact a faction bug. Good catch.

Guards in both North and West Karana will attack lions, except young plains lions and lionesses. Since I'm a druid, I have the benefit of being able to spot faction differences in animals. The young plains lion(ess) con dubiously to me and are ignored by the guards. All other lions and animals con amiably, and are attacked by the guards. So those two types of lions must not be on the proper faction to be attacked.

You are giving Bartley and Stanard to much credit. I watched a Hill Giant kick both their asses. He was down to 10% but the giant won.

As far as animals go though, do I remember wrong here. If I was fighting something on live, and a wolf came by, it would assist me when playing my ranger? I could have sworn I won a duel like that one day in Q-hills. I was fighting a paladin and a wolf passed by, it started to attack the paladin I was fighting.

Odds are the wolf glared threateningly to the paladin.

I've never seen an NPC/mob assist a player. Either the npc would attack something else or it wouldn't... whether or not a player was engaged never mattered. Anything a guard would attack, for example, they'd attack with no player around.

Should any lions be friendly with druids? I thought the druid/ranger faction didn't cross over to lions. Looked up a couple of them and found responses such as these:

I am a ranger of Tunare, and every lion I have ever seen has been hostile, ready to attack. All the other natural critters think I'm pretty nifty though.

Being a Druid and formerly a Ranger i can say for certain that all lions are aggro and KOS to both (although i'm not sure about Druid... by the time i got to their lands they were already too green to be that suicidal hehe)

Oh yeah, they're kos to druids. my 14th level druid got blindsided by one. i was talking with an npc and couldn't find the thing. Was at half health before i could get out of the camp. they hit for over 30 a pop

proposed changes:

-make the karana guards kill lions
-lion faction kos to druids/rangers

Anyone familiar with this?

I did play a Druid outta Qeynos a long time ago...
I thought that Lions were KoS as well.

Speaking of which, I know it's off topic - but shouldn't Karana Rangers and Druids start off in Surefall and not Qeynos? I tried a Ranger a little bit back and it starts you at the PoD in Qeynos, but you have to travel to Surefall to turn in your note.

You can start up a new thread about it. I'm not sure if SFG was an initial start/bind point.

I am 100% positive SFG was the starting point for Karana Dru/Rang

As nice as it's been not being KOS to lions, I have to say that both of the proposed changes need to go in. One caveat is that currently not all lions are on the same faction.

As much as I hate posting a statement without a link to back it up, I've scoured archives and modern versions of ranger and druid guides on Allakhazam, Castersrealm, the Druid's Grove, the Ranger's Glade, EQDruids, you name it. I can't find a single definitive statement to back me up on this.

But bears = amiable, wolves = amiable, lions = threatening.

The evidence is out there, somewhere, I just haven't found it yet. Will give it another go later and edit in a link when I turn it up.

After the last patch I've noticed not all animals are amiable to my druid any more. Just thought I would throw that out there.

Most lion types that i've noticed at the moment are threateningly.

I noticed that they are threateningly as well, just didn't know how it was supposed to be.

Yup i noticed this in NK and SK. Nothing like medding for mana when your engaged with a Gnoll to have a level 7 lioness smash you in the face.

I will point out though that when I was in EK in early levels while the lions all seemed the correct faction, the gorge hounds were all amiable as well which I think they were threatening to druids in live.

i personally do not remember any animals being kos to druid pre kunark, maybe griffons.. but other than that i would say no, oh and maybe the unique animals, such as gorge hounds as stated before

These beasts are very aggressive. Do not stop at Gypsies caravans if you cannot take on one of these because if they are out there they will find you.
Almost died twice in a row in North Karana by these lions (while being bound in Greater Fay). First at caravan, I was taking out a lioness that jumped me (which white to my 10th lvl druid) and a high plains male attacked me. Needless to say I had a long walk and boat trip back.
These lions litterly come out of nowhere. While looting my corpse. I looked around 360% during the day. Grabbed everything I could off my corpse quickly loading everything into my backpacks. All of a sudden "you are hit for 30 points". I ran thinking my SOW would save me (wrong-o). i went unconcious and then a guard killed the dang thing (thanks u for saving me a 2 hour trip).
These lions do not like druids, eventhough I never killed any lions before this. They apparently cannot see through even the 2ng-ring druid spell camo as I have not been jumped by them in 4 trips through this zone.

Aye, my wife (plays a druid) has noticed that in EK the lionesses that roam around are no longer amiable, even though there has been no discernible faction loss.

I was trying to let her catch up to me after the flurry of activity that was the experience bonus weekend, and little things like that kept interfering and frustrating her, since she wasn't aware of anything she had done to warrant it.

Read the patch notes for the 24th. They seem to have 'fixed' the lions faction...
