Plane of Growth: was it released with Velious?

I've seen several people mention that growthplane wasn't released with Velious launch.

Is this true?

I have found sources referring to people killing there in December 2000.

Hey, like it or not, this IS armor for level 55+, and the eroded pieces you're looking for drop in (among other places) Kael Drakkal off level 55+ giants. Remember, as far as we know, this is the equivalent to the stuff that people are getting in the Plane of Growth. So, to the person whining about this quest being for level 55+ folks: deal with it, and get crackin'. You've got some work to do.

Also, as far as we know, the eroded leather is no drop. Auctioning will do you no good.

As for the Plane of Mischief, no one has found the portal yet, but word is that it will be a dollhouse-sized castle that randomly appears in two different zones. A little derail, but does that mean PoM is also open on launch and with 2 entry points? I thought the 2 entries were ToV and GD but that GD wasnt till later.

The new entrance to PoM is in the small cave at the Southern end of the stream running through the middle of The Great Divide. There is a small "dollhouse" castle sitting in the middle of the stream just inside the cave. Click on the tiny castle to enter the Plane of Mischief.

the drop rates of armour where kinda brutal, something rogues , necros monks loved alot.

I can confirm at velious launch the planes were simply not ready. The loot in PoG was atrocious on release. Entire plane clear would net 2-3 pieces of armor. It was later revamped. It took a month or two(i think) for them to finally put plane of mischief and growth in game. It would totally be classic not to release them at launch.

I think during luclin also plane of mischief was moved from veeshan's temple to the great divide simply because no one ever went there. Even after the move, no one ever went there...go figure. What a terrible zone. Plane of mischief was revamped 3 times...still no one ever went there. It was so unpopular we had our own plane of mischief website where all 30 of us who went there from all the servers correlated our information.

Edit: I also have a foggy memory of plane of growth going up and down like 10 times due to loot issues. Too much loot, too little loot, wrong loot for zone. I think finally the armor drop rate settled at about 1/4th the rate of plane of fear/hate armor if i remember correctly.

I can confirm your memory as being foggy in general.

PoG was up at launch, PoM had shitty drop rates for over a year and not everyone who worked PoM for drops was posting on whatever website you're inventing to back up your claims.

You are correct that PoG drops were dropping everything from Tormax crowns to BoDS after a patch, but they fixed that shit pronto.

This is difficult to exactly determine when Tunare became fully itemized, since she died for the first time in July 2001 (http://web.archive.org/web/20010809194733/http://www.noows.com/showthread.php?threadid=2719)(8+ months post release). She only dropped 2x Necro PoG Robes and a Blade of the Swarm (http://web.archive.org/web/20010802110042/http://www.mobhunter.com/SiteChannelServlet.html?page=article&articleid=-246201979) (which is severely underwhelming) for her difficulty. Afterlife was the second guild to kill Tunare and that wasn't until October 13, 2001 (http://web.archive.org/web/20020324032612/http://afterlifeguild.org/); however, she does appear to be holding a whip (Braid of Golden Hair) in the pictures, but Afterlife was not nice enough to identify the drops from their kill.

The July 2001 Capture of Alla (http://web.archive.org/web/20010727155954/http://eqbeastiary.allakhazam.com/search.shtml?id=5335) shows an image of Tunare holding a wizard looking stave >>...<<.

If I had to put a date on it, I would say July-August 2001, shortly after Fires of Heaven's first kill, since Furor threw a shit fit about the encounter.

These items were identified November 2001+ as new items probably due to the length of time between the first, second and subsequent kills, at least according to Alla's item updates on the front page.

Obviously EoN had FT V added later if it was an original loot.

It's not confirmed, she definitely had some loot upgraded, but when/if stuff was added needs more research. I'm pretty sure these weren't post Luclin additions.

I have not found a patch note or dev acknowledgment of an upgraded loot table, just the time line of the actual kills and when the items were divulged. It will be up to the devs to make the call whether FoH simply had bad luck with their drops and load her up from the start.

At released PoM was only entered by the very few who could get to it and back then no one even thought to or dare risked run through "Temple of veeshan city of dragons!" Gotta remember back in 2001 EQ was top of its game, no one saw the game in the perspective we do now.

On Bertox [Top guild was Prophecy at the time] only a couple select crowds went in.

It's worth remembering that Velious in general was badly-itemized on release, not just Tunare. It didn't become a really good expansion until the following summer/fall.

I concur that Growth was in at launch. I think all zones were in, just some weren't used by players for various reasons for some months.

I am certain at some point in time the zone was not working, you could try to click in to it but the clicky would not work to zone into PoG from WL. Now that someone mentions it, i do remember some people killing tunare and getting fat nothing. I think no one started killing her till like 6 mo's in bc no loot, or sucky loot. You would only get 2 breastplates after first upgrade
