I'm Jingleson, new player to Project 1999. Haven't played Everquest in forever, and when I heard about this server I was seriously excited, and so here I am, playing my first Bard and trying to tooth out a living on bone chips and cloth armor in Freeport. I don't really have a plan at this point other than having read the newbie guide, but I'll probably be going to Greater Faydark from 5-7 and Crushbone from 7-12, after that who knows. I'm just trying to cut my teeth and get a feel for the class right now and scrounge whatever coin and equipment I can. I'll probably give the Bard page on the wiki a read.
Anyway, just thought I'd introduce myself and say that it's already a lot of fun, the excitement of grinding for bone chips, cloth armor, and rusty weapons. Hope to see some of you guys in-game soon, and hopefully I'll have a successful career on this Bard.

Welcome to P1999, it's a great server and it is a very friendly environment for the most part.
A piece of advice, I wouldn't venture to G-Fay right away. I would suggest staying in East Commons killing bears/lions/wolfs until you can get into the Dervish camps. The HQ pelts always sell well and you can normally get free buffs from high level players in EC.
Plus most of the time you group at the Derv camps high level Characters will stop by and buff the group or even give out a few nice keep sakes for free.
That's just my two cents. Good Luck!

I'd like to offer the following starting advice, and hope that it's helpful to ya.
When the server is back up, hunt down a mage to make you some summoned 6 or 10 slot backpacks. You'll want 5-6 of them. If you make a level 1 alt and ground twink the empty bags to it at the end of a play session, you can then punch out a guard and make a corpse which will store the No Rent bags until your next play session.
You can pick up some good cash from this as you're constantly looting *everything*.
Moving on, the Felwithe to Kelethin bard mail quest isn't quite classic in that it grants more gold than it should - about 3 to 11 gp per run. Do it a few times to get your bags, save about 2pp left over, and run to Kaladim and buy small tattered armor off of the vendors. They're always stocked due to people turning in CB Belts and Bone Chips.
Level from 1 to 5 in front of Kaladim. Save bone chips, and turn them in at level 5 to Gunlok Jure in the Paladin's guild. You should make level 7-8 off of them.
The Orcs in GFay drop belts. Blow them up, either solo or in groups until level 9 or even 10 (you can reach 10 off of the ones guarding the entrance to CB).
At this stage, head into Lesser Fay to the Orc camp marked #11 on the Atlas map
http://www.eqtitan.com/eqatlas/lesserfaydarkmap.html
There are 6 centurion spawns here, all of them are about +1 level to the ones that spawn back in Gfay near CB entrance, and they drop belts too. If you run directly from GFay entrance to the camp in a straight line, you will only encounter two Level 8 skeletons (each solo). You will NOT get run over by Shadowed Men or Brownie Scouts. It's safe.
You'll figure out what to do at 12, but by doing the above you can reach level 12 while getting that cool CB belt cash at the same time. No one ever camps the Lfay orcs.

Nice to meet you! I'm a newbie too :) Will shortly be in Qeynos as I can't STAND leveling up in Tox (except for bone chips).

I just started a High Elf myself. Maybe I'll bump into you if you swing through GFay.

I'll be sure to ask for help if I hit any sort of roadblock. At the moment my goal is simply to hit level 5, save all my bone chips for Kaladim as recommended, and afford a suit of Leather Armor from North Freeport.

Shout out to a player named attreyu, gave me a few things to sell for some quick plat, thanks so much bro. Someone also bought my bone chips for 10pp a stack. Gonna try and get a Sainy's Singing Dagger and some banded armor.
Level 4 now, gonna push one more level in freeport.

Well, I don't know why, but I logged in tonight and my character was gone. I thought maybe it was a bug so I logged out and logged in again and my character is still gone, deleted I guess? I have no idea why but it's kinda disheartening, I had a decent weapon (Sainy's Singing Dagger) and a bit of banded, and someone went through a lot of trouble to help me out, and now it's gone.
*sigh* I guess I'll start a new character tomorrow.

I'd double check and make sure you logged into the right server, sometimes if you use the auto login/previous server button it will take you to the wrong server I've noticed.

Yeah, I checked it three times, that character is gone. It's a mystery to me...

I thought about it, but I'm not going to waste the GM's time. My character was only level 4 and I'm sure they have more important things to devote their time and resources too.
I'm just going to start over, and if it happens again I'll petition it then. I'll try a Ranger this time I guess. A few people recommended that I play a Druid as my first class, but I prefer playing the underdog.

Well, I started my new character this morning after strangely losing my previous character last night. I'm a level 3 Ranger still named Jingleson, running around west freeport beating up decaying skeletons. I'm stocking up on as many bone chips as possible while I grind my way to level 5. Saving every coin that I can to get some better armor and weapons. Hopefully Ranger equipment isn't too expensive.
If this character gets deleted too, I'll petition it, but so far no problems.

Not to dishearten you, and if you played original please ignore this as you already have made your choice.
But ranger usually = reroll by 20s. Not that they arent fun or they dont get a little better in velius.
That being said, you will suffer from a static 40% xp penalty and notice a much lower dps output than you might really like.
I love rangers- especially epic ones, but only the strong survive who play this class. I wish you the best and I hope you have the internal fortitude to forge through the rough times.

Some of my favorite games are the ones that are relentlessly difficult and brutally unforgiving, such as Ninja Gaiden, Dark Souls, and Ultima Online. So challenge is nothing new to me.
If I find that I can't hack it at some point, so be it, but I'll worry about that bridge when/if I reach it. Until then, I'm gonna play the best that I can and have as much fun as possible doing so.
As far as DPS goes though, the wiki says Rangers get Dual Wield and Double Attack, not to mention Kick and some minor DoT spells. I would think Dual Wield and Double Attack on their own would consistute a considerable level of DPS output with decent weapons.

Rangers can put out as much DPS as a warrior without Disks and being in Zerker Mode. So not too shabby. But they are a LOT of work to get to the top. But some people like a challenge. So if that is what you want, go for it. And welcome aboard.

Well someone in game said the servers went down for an extended period of time the other day, so I guess what happened to my character was the result of some sort of rollback. I don't know if anyone else experienced one though.
On a character related note though, my first priority will be a pair of ebony bladed swords, then a suit of banded, then some HP rings.

Welcome to the server. I myself am quite new to P99 having played back in 99-05, but I will agree on one of the above posts where they say the community is very friendly for the most part. The week or so I have been back I will tend to agree but there has been some negatives, which there always will be sadly.
I will tell about one of the main run ins I had. The wife and I ran to EC tunnel at level 6 and asked a druid for a lower level skin buff to help us out, if they took a look at our toons thy would have seen we were quite new to the server. They took a look at us and came to the conclusion we probably had no cash so their response was "that takes too much mana sorry" and continued porting people for cash as they were auctioning.
C'mon we have all been there, but seriously? If people want this server to continue to grow new players and lowbies need to be helped out its that simple. Then they grow and raise in their levels and they do the same to other newbies its a cycle but it needs to happen. It takes a few seconds of your time to help a new character with a buff that may last close to an hour and will make their P99 exp so much better.
Take care of the servers newbies guys, they will return the favor to your alts and others once they level you can be sure of it.
PS - This is by no means me bashing the player base because for every one bad experience there was another nine great ones, but we can do better and make it ten out of ten.

Sorry to hear that man. But hey, if I make it to the point where I start getting decent buffs like SoW, I'd be happy to buff you and your wife on the spot. That's a ways off though. =/

Hi, Mortiis here from old Tallon Zek server from back in the day.
I just learned about project 1999 and would love to start playing again while we wait for next.
Any info on obtaining a legit copy of Titanium would be great. Amazon wants 175+ used, ebay is showing one for 45.. is that a decent price? Would be glad to pay for a download of SOE offers it to get started playing this weekend.
Let me know all.
Thanks again,
Cant wait to start over!

As a Druid I feel the need to apologize for the person that was so rude to you! I actually DO often sit in EC and /ooc that I'm giving away druid buffs at the tunnel for free. I usually run out of mana doing so (after about 4 or 5 people) but I just med up and then /ooc again. It's a pretty cool way to pass the time and everyone is always so appreciative. We've all been level 6 before, whether it's your main or an alt, its tough being low level. You can always get buffs from me when I'm in EC! All you have to do is /tell Laledorie! ^.^

I can honestly say I've played on this server for almost 2 years and have leveled many characters, and have never asked for a buff. People have ran by me and randomly buffed me, but I have never asked. You don't need a SLN to level, you don't NEED any buffs to play the game and have fun. IMO, the best way to experience this game as a new player or returning player is to start with nothing, and make it challenging. That's what Everquest is.

Yeah, maybe. At 25 I kinda feel young here. I first played Ultima when I was 11 years old.
Anyway, finally hit lv5, and I'm gonna hang around Orc Hill in Kelethin for a while, then try CB. I think I can figure out where to go from here, it's just a matter of "can I survive the grind?" We'll see.

I spent the last two days at sisters, the levels went by pretty fast and the money was good. I made it to level 17 today and saved up about 1k plat so far, which is hopefully a good start towards my first Lamentation.
I'm gonna go to Unrest now and try to ride it out until 22.

It was the same name as my Ranger is using now, Jingleson, and it was a Level 4 Bard. I'm not worried about it anymore though, this character is doing fine. No worries man.
If it happens again I'll petition it for sure.
