As this buff procs it does not do anything but trigger a message in red text saying "You do not own a pet." If you don't have a pet out.
WITH a pet out, it is different. This is due to the fact that instead of proccing a lifetap, it procs a pet berserk. Here are the logs from a few minutes ago:
[Tue Mar 04 15:55:26 2014] Auto attack is on.
[Tue Mar 04 15:55:26 2014] Jonarn goes berserk.
[Tue Mar 04 15:55:26 2014] a ghostly scholar says, 'Heretic! Dare you enter our sacred halls? Your crimes shall not go unpunished. You shall die for your deeds.'
[Tue Mar 04 15:55:26 2014] You slash a ghostly scholar for 55 points of damage.

[Tue Mar 04 15:55:29 2014] a ghostly scholar regains concentration and continues casting.

[Tue Mar 04 15:55:30 2014] You slash a ghostly scholar for 67 points of damage.
The skeleton illusion works just fine as well as mana cost, recast timer etc.
This also applies to the non-illusion spell, Shroud of Death. They both give the same message and both proc some sort of pet berserk.
