Something is definitely wrong with this spell and possibly others in the same spell line.

While in Paw the spell was almost completely useless due to the tight corners in certain areas. This was not the way the spell line worked on live.

You should be able to assist the puller and cast the spell.

(I know this was posted already http://www.project1999.org/forums/showthread.php?t=419&highlight=line+sight but it's marked as resolved and clearly is not resolved.)

How strange. My wife and I can use lull/soothe/calm/etc without direct line of sight. I think it has something to do with which version of the modified files you're using.

Can anyone else confirm that the enchanter spell Calm is working for them without a direct line of sight?

Because mine still does not work and I'm starting to wonder if a messed up spell file could cause something like this to occur.

EDIT: Just found this post:

However the spell file mentioned is from 9/30/09 and I'm pretty sure it's been updated recently. So now I'm not sure if I should mess with that or not.

Think one of the newer spell files broke this so a lot of calmers use the older version...

Ah, thanks for the tip. I guess I will give it a shot...

I've never had any problems with Calm needing LOS, fwiw. I use the spells.txt file from the 12/18 update patch notes.

Well I'm getting a lot of mixed messages then. Some people say it's common knowledge that the spell is broken and others say they have never had a problem.

Anybody have any theories???

I have experienced this issue with Harmony as well, but having never played a class that can reduce agro I didn't know it was a problem. I have not installed the 12/18 spells.txt yet either. I will try that tonight and see if I can give you a little more information to work with, guinea.

I've had 3 or 4 members of my guild have this issue.

I had them re-download the spell file and they haven't had an issue since.

This was before december

Cool, thanks man.

I'm really curious now where I went wrong. Can't recall if I have changed my spell file once or twice since starting on this server.

I know Lull didn't work without LoS in my teens, and I know Calm doesn't work without LoS now... but I basically soloed through my 20s so it might have been working for a short time and I wouldn't have even known it.

It's a vital class defining ability, and I especially need it to work now that I'm frequenting LGuk.

Semi related, is necro line of undead lull supposed to require los?

bump:

Can anybody confirm that this is indeed a spell file issue with the Enchanter spell: Calm?
And if so could you please also confirm which spell file fixes the issue?

I just received Pacify recently and did not test that one yet.
I know a month or 2 ago Lull wasn't working without LoS either.

And to clarify, I'm specifically referring to the Enchanter versions of the spells (who knows, there might be a difference of some sort).

I will confirm for you that my wife is able to use the entire Lull/Soothe/Calm/Pacify line without direct line of sight. She's a cleric, but of course Clerics and Enchanters have the same spell line. It'd be interesting of class is somehow affecting this.

Dabamf: I don't know about which is 'supposed', but I know several necromancers who are able to use their undead-only lull-type spell without direct line of sight. I also know a few who cannot.

I'm unsure of the cause of the discrepancy players have with these spells, but I've been told it's related to the spells file.

I've never been able to lull through walls. Followed the game setup directions perfectly as far as I know.

For clarification. Wiki is also a chanter and she has Lull, Calm and Pacify.

The druid spell harmony works through walls just fine at least for me. This was testing on the tower specters in oasis with other spells saying I could not see them.

YOU WILL NEED THESE FILES:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=1XIZ9L31 (spells_us.txt) 12/18 (nilbog)

update your stuff... works fine, and has been working fine for quite some time. Infact the spell file before the one on 12/18 fixed this also.

Calm and pacify still not working with the 12/18 spell file.
Will try again tomorrow i guess

Update:

I ended up downloading and replacing the spell file again (the latest one listed in the getting started thread) and it appears that I can now use calm and pacify as intended.

Sadly I forgot to try lull... but I'm guessing that is working now too.

It was the spell file. Up until recently, the altered spell file for p99 did not work with lull. This has now been fixed. The most recent spell file does in fact work properly. It does not depend on the level of lull being used. Move me to reSOLVed!
