i've not come up with much browsing the forum, so i ask: is it true that this character pretty much has to go to freeport to buy most of his/her spells? i'm bad at navigating ak'anon in the first place and i'm terrified of getting lost in that maze so i haven't put forth a whole lot of effort myself.
yes, i am a unique snowflake.

if you too lazy to work out/navigate your home city..../eyeroll....then make a lvl 1 hgihelf and buy them in felwithe and ground transfer them to said gnomic entity.

it's not just my laziness, which is boundless, it's that i've heard that there just isn't any evil cleric spell vendors in-city and it annoys me. that would be a plan but there's the matter of getting plat to that character in the first place.

Gnome cleric is literally the worst race choice you could make.
If you aren't too high of level, I'd highly suggest rerolling dark elf or high elf.

pfff, elves are a buncha wussies. also im sure i'll never progress far enough for it to really matter; i'm simply trying to figure out just how gargantuan a pain in the ass this alt will be and hoped for a bit of advice beyond "hop a boat", as i've not leveled in faydwer in a long ass time.
i play like 1-2 hours on a good weekday, have to be in bed at grandpa hours, and am generally too busy getting drunk on weekends. i feel accomplished if i achieve a surname

If you're getting lost in the gnome caves, FP sewers will be annoying as hell too. Just stick with it and find your vendors. Most of the time those confusing places start becoming easy to find once you've done it a while. I was amazed at how the memory came back for navigating cities when I started on p99 after not playing eq in 10 years.

i can see how my op might have been misleading now
i'm only foregoing learning to navigate the evil rock snake cellar because i read on a couple different posts that that evil cleric spell vendors literally *do not exist* in ak'anon past a few random cross-class spells and wanted some verification for or against that fact.

You're a druid bro...
First of, Gnome clerics are the best, everybody knows that. Second, how come you are going bertoxx? I got both a Bertoxx and Brell gnome cleric, and my Bertoxx cleric is missing out on the sweet Brell cultural armor (gloves and arms). Go Brell..

When this game came out there were promises that each race/deity would have some sort of perk to them, so yeah I remember people making evil gnome clerics and other odd combos.
I don't think they ever made anything for Bertox Gnome Clers until they made that overpowered noobie armor years later.

for real though guys, is there evil cleric spell vendors in ak'anon? or am i buying into a shitty rumor?

Don't worry too much about this, as Blondeattk highlighted, it is very easy to create an alt, make him buy the spell in whatever city you are near too when time comes to buy new spell and ground transfer them. Worst case scenario, if you are really the lonely type who knows absolutely no one who can help you transfer money for the purchase, just ground transfer some peridots, you will loose a bit of money but nothing to write home about.

dang, afraid of that. all the people i played with have "quit" (extended burn-out hiatus) so i pretty much gotta take things into my own hands.
wouldn't be so bad if every old alt i had with a fistful of plat was in antonica!
the peridots is a good idea, hadn't thought of that one.

See, there are no problems, only solutions, if there's no solution, there's no problem :)

Gnome cleric is literally the worst race choice you could make.
Like dwarves, Brell Gnome Clerics have access to the badass brown cultural plate and unlimited clicky beer necklace.
Unlike dwarves, they are able to see through walls and can wear the high-end Velious robes.
Gnomes are easily the overall best choice for the cleric class.

wtf like ugliest race ever, much pale, much weak

Other options are 3 short races - completely inferior, can't see over people in first person in a raid. The only reason I'd ever consider playing on a PvP server is to mercilessly hunt down all Halflings and gnomes. Human - most bland choice ever... I bet you order Vanilla Ice Cream at Baskin Robbins too. Erudite - WTF no one plays an Erudite. The only redeeming quality erudite clerics had was the Call of Bones mask but that don't exist no more. Shout out to the PoMischief mask that let's Erudites clicky Illusion Barbarian though.
Which leaves the Elves. Who clearly are the winners.

Bro, do you even /target, /assist or /rt ....
Daldaen

/target, /assist, /rtarget don't allow one to watch the field. See how many mobs are coming into camp, see where they are coming and then use /rtar to start a CH early on someone who may need it in the very near future.
To be honest though, that was mostly in jest, since we have non-classic scroll wheel and can scroll between 1st and 3rd person so easily.
But short races still suck. Elves ftw.

Like dwarves, Brell Gnome Clerics have access to the badass brown cultural plate and unlimited clicky beer necklace.
Unlike dwarves, they are able to see through walls and can wear the high-end Velious robes.
Gnomes are easily the overall best choice for the cleric class.
Reasons to go Gnome Cleric -
- Ninja look with plate helm (male)
- Goggle helm with custom Velious helm
- Seeing through walls rocks (as a former monk this keeps me sane)
- Tinkering (sorta sucks, but hey, you too can blow 1k/combine for Rebreathers)
- Smaller hitbox and los with npcs - not super helpful, but sometimes you can make this be useful
- Tiny epic is tiny
- Sinzan
- Can wear brell armor, this stuff rocks, shame its expensive as it is
- Brell clerics get clicky beer (not in game till Velious)
- Rarest cleric race
- Can wear robes
Reasons not to go Gnome Cleric -
- Being short has its disvantages (even moreso in Velious with steps/clicky zone lines)
- You're down ~30 wis vs. high elves (gnome clr = 102 max base wis)
- You're down ~20 cha vs. high elves
- You have 60 base strength - this sucks as a plate class, you'll be constantly overweight
- Your racial stat points (lower than other races) are somewhat distributed in agi/dex/int of all places
Reasons to consider other races -
- For wis/cha go High Elf
- For clicky snare neck go Innie (Dark elf, human, eru?)
- For most awesome starting city go Dark elf
- For sneak pulling go halfling
- For hide go halfling, dark elf
- If you want to do tailoring pre-velious for coldain shawl do a race with cultural tailoring (ie halfling, erudite, forget who else)
- If you want to wear robes, avoid Dwarf and Halfling
- Best melee stats (sta, str, etc) and good wis with barrel roll go Dwarf (also can make brell cultural armor - Gnome cannot)
- Best tradable armor set is Brells by far, have to be Dwarf or Gnome (halflings can wear, but can't be brell clerics)
PS - Only like 4 robes in game for Gnome Cleric: Noble Robe, Plastmatic Priest's robe, VP robe, Vulak robe - not exactly available to most people at all.

Don't forget Burnyai legion gi (sp)?
It's a pretty decent robe, and it's usable by all cleric robe races (Erudite, Dark Elf, Human, High Elf)....except Gnome!
