View Full Version : Game Mechanics: NPC AE suppose to hit other NPCs
currently when an NPC AEs it does not hit other NPCs in the vicinity.
It is suppose to.
CLASSIC
That's not how AEs ever worked.
Though agro mechanics from a mob casting on a charmed pet that breaks or vice versa is not classic and intentional. I don't think you can get even get mobs to attack each other if a charmed pet casts/procs a DoT and you break charm.
You are retarded.
Just totally ignore how faction wars get started.
How about you stop posting dawg.
They went out of the way to make NPCs interrupt when casting on former charmed pets. What makes you think they would make AEs hit NPCs, which isn't even classic.

The lava storm fire drakes absolutely hit each other when I played
It's possible I never fought AE mobs until after it was changed. Did it cause the mobs to agro each other? You would think that would be abused and quickly changed.

Uh AEs most certainly used to hit other npcs. It was fun times getting talendor vs 2 guardian wurm battles going.

It would cause mobs to attack each other. It was abused and eventually changed.
You could train WW dragons to the shipwrecked gnomes and set the AE for them to fight the dragons for you. You could train the Benevolence quest giants in WW to Sont/Kland and get them to fight for you. There were instances of Nagafen spawning and AEing a human ragefire causing them to attack each other.

This did occur until the summer after velious was released I think In June 2001. There is evidence in other threads about how in cobalt scar the othmir would kill cobalt drakes when hit by their ae spell.
Obviously this could easily be abused, so maybe it's not a priority.

You guys seem to think this was changed to not work anymore while totally ignoring the fact that this was an ongoing thing even in Planes of Power.
Bastion of Thunder, Rallos Zek pit faction wars ring a bell?
You guys say you are champions of classic. Are you really? Or is that what nilbog wants us to believe?

No, it was never changed.
You simply never paid attention.
It was abused, and it existed from the very beginning of EQ to PoP.
I appreciate people like you who come into these threads to champion your misinformation.

You don't need to be a jerk when disagreeing with someone here. This is not conducive to improving the server.
Furthermore, bug posts get more attention from server developers when you post data/information from early 2000s that you found from old sites/patch notes.

I was referring to when the Cobalt Scar ae stopped affecting the othmir. I haven't looked into other instances.
From Velious Thread: http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=141714
Initially in Velious it appears that the Othmir camps in Cobalt Scar would get hit by the Cobalt Drake's AE spell (Frosty Death) and they would act as guards and kill the drake. This looks like it was removed sometime in a patch between April and May 2001.
"They used to act as guards when fighting the cobalt drakes, but they no longer do so. "
Source
Apr 18 2001: "When the drake AEs again, all the Othmirs of that camp will agro on it. They will kill it, tho it will take a few moments...so as soon as its AE goes off...begin running away from the othmir camp, to escape the lastAE it might get off. "
Source
May 21 2001: "New change - Othmir no longer aggro on the Drakes after being hit by AE spell =("

I have no problem drawing attention from server developers.
Furthermore, data and information isnt needed when saying NPC AEs should hit other NPCs as anyone who payed attention while playing EQ would know this.

We used to use sentient suits to soften up Woushi.
OK I'm very wrong. A couple months ago I tried to start a faction war on beta using charm and was unable to do it. I searched a little and found it was taken out on purpose. I'm not ignorant of faction wars, I just thought it was done using caster/charm pet mechanics. Apparently I never was paying attention to AEs in classic. I remember bards soloing Melalafen back in the day and I guess it was done using npc AE agro rather than charm break agro.

Once you find the correct NPC (human male as pictured above who responds to "what plasmatic priest") hand him your Coral Statue of Tarew and he will change into A Plasmatic Priest (agro NPC). It's highly recommended you not fight him where he spawns because he uses AE spells which will agro other NPC and if they get the kill you'll have to start over. Instead, hit him and drag him to the zone. This WILL agro other NPCs as they assist the non-agro version. Just root him and zone out. Then, once the others have reset, you can hand in and not worry. Use stuns to keep him from healing himself. He drops Blood Soaked Plasmatic Priest Robe.

found this - seems to be used for some various things
dont think its a viable strat to clear zones tho - any Dev able to comment on how to fix it so when you break charm on a pet that is mid casting a detrimental spell, the spell interrupts rather than continues to land ( classic fix to this exploit )
