You need to be indifferent or better with the lesser spirit. This was just changed effective with the June 24th patch.

I just did this yesterday. I had an enchanter charm the lesser spirit which made it indifferent to me. It is a level 1 mob, so any enchanter level 12 or greater will be able to charm it. I paid a level 14 to do it for me in Field of Bone.

I appreciate the reply. I will try it tomorrow or this weekend. It still seems like a bug since you can start the shaman epic quest without having the assistance of an enchanter. In my opinion they should just change it so that lesser spirits are automatically indifferent to you.

Thanks.

Epic quests aren't meant to be done solo.

I found 2001 evidence suggesting that you cannot do that part of the quest until indifferent and several suggestions to either use a chanter charm or utilize a bug on the server at the time (all mobs would con indifferent for first 10-15s after logging on a new character)

It is *possible* shamans, by default, start at indifferent true spirit faction, and all other classes are apprehensive. Research that a bit I suggest.

"It took my non-Shaman test characters 10 turn-ins to advance from apprehensive to indifferent. What class were you trying it with?" -Talking about Tiny Gem

"Did not take long at all this way. Curious how you managed to do it 10 times? unless you tested it with an enchanter. I had to use oen click from the orante velium pendant on the wolf, and one on Bondi in order to get the gem and get him to take it. After that I was able to get it without using any more clicks. I did use another click however when doing the turn in of the childs tear as otherwise a non-shaman will not have the faction.

Should have used sneak instead of faction pendant to start it off. I tried various characters; I know that beastlords and zerkers have the same good faction as Shamans while all other classes are under par. Maybe I'll try it again."

I agree that epic quests aren't meant to be done solo. However, this is the first step of the quest and the only way to start the quest is to trick the game into believing you are indifferent. Additionally, since this is step 1, there is no way to raise true spirit faction prior to this step, so you either trick the game or you are out of luck. Luckily, the trick is easy, but I just wanted to more clearly lay out my reasoning.

I agreed that it may be the case I just hadn't investigated. However I'm correct in the apprehensive wouldn't talk to you. The server may just be wrong in starting all shaman as at Apprehensively, instead they should be indifferent probably.

But seeing as your posts are from 2009, I may as well fire up EQLive and see what my shaman who hasn't don't epic cons without any work done. May be worth using the new faction feature to see how much each faction hit really is on live too.

Daldaen's ClassicQuest status stays the same. Infact +10 for encouraging others to partake.

Think of it this way. When the Shaman receives the epic his faction gets reset to default, which is drum roll please, indifferent.
Your faction standing with Daldaen got worse.

I'm confused at why that's worse faction for me.

Make a post saying Shamans should have default indifferent faction. Provide some in-era evidence and it will get changed.

I'm not doubting that to be the case.

Just having a bit of fun dald :D. I think the guides (http://web.archive.org/web/20001218051000/http://www.gameznet.com/eq/quest/spearoffate.html) from the golden era that don't mention needing charm to start the epic coupled with the final epic turn in returning to indif speak for themselves.

For now, find a chanter or bard and charm it.

Shaman default faction should probably get moved to Indifferent though. Unsure how they can do that for already created characters however...

I wonder if something can be taken from the Stanos class check code to return an if class shaman, faction is indifferent if less than that.

Faction files were loaded several seconds after characters entered world/zone. Until the files are loaded you would have the default faction. Example: Camp in Skyshrine next to a mob, which is kos by default, then when you logged in you might get eaten depending on the speed of the faction loading.

Oh man, I'm remembering some Ranger/Druid bitching about logging in next to a Kodiak in West Commons and getting ganked. Can't recall if it was "so sorry, too bad, can't fix it" or if they patched in a fix later, or what.
