View Full Version : Game Mechanics: Ogre Frontal Spell Interrupts

I've been playing my ogre shaman for about a week, and until today, he couldn't get knocked back or spell interrupted by melee attacks from the front. Since the server restart today, though, he is getting knocked back and spell interrupted. He still isn't stunned by bashes from the front, though. I don't know what the intended behavior is or what classic had in this regard, but I figured I'd note the change here since there's no patch note regarding it (and since Uthgaard told me to).

Ogres never had immunity to spell stuns, just melee stuns and only from the front (the side doesn't count). This of course has always been dependant on your ability to not be moving. IE: if a mob is pushing you back your spells will be interrupted. In order to be completely 100% uninteruptable you need to have your back to a wall or something solid, and obviously not getting hit by any spells that have a stun component.

Sounds to me like everything is working just like it should.

To clarify: mobs would not push back my ogre shaman from the front before the server restart, and he hence would never get interrupted. Now they do, and so he does.

Melee push is happening too frequently since the maintenance. Nearly every hit I've been moved around. I don't seem to be pushing mobs anywhere either, they're just pushing me.

I do recall that having your back to a wall was a much to guarantee zero interrupts. I'm not 100% on this but I'm pretty sure zero push would be a mistake.

But if Itchy is correct and mobs are pushing more than they should then I agree it should be looked into.

This was only on my ogre. My other casters did get interrupted from the front; the ogre didn't. I assumed it was a race feature.

Now that they implemented push again, they need to take out the 'chance for npc melee to straight up interrupt' that was added to counter the old system of no push.

With this now, you should be able to get in a corner, negate that push and not be interrupted.

Otherwise, we'll be taking interrupts from being pushed and innately from npc melee swings. Haynar confirmed that the system was in only b/c push wasn't. Will find the thread if needed.

Go get in a corner and see how it is working.

And now I'm not getting interrupted from the front at all anymore on my ogre. Kind of odd how it keeps changing.

I'm gonna have to take a cue from Haynar and start making people stand in the corner.

I don't follow. Did I miss some patch notes about this somewhere?

Right, so the issue was apparently that a melee pushback system wasn't working, so P99 instead used to have a straight-up chance of interrupt per hit. With this system, my ogre was not being interrupted by melee from the front, ever. Then when I made this thread, the melee pushback system was apparently put in, and my ogre started getting interrupted from the front. And now he's not anymore. I still don't really understand what's going on and what the intended behavior is. Are ogres supposed to get spell interrupted from the front by melee attacks, or not? (To reiterate, I'm talking about both bash and normal melee attacks; bash not stunning from the front has been working the whole time.)

It was a joke. Stand in the corner.

Update on this: currently, none of my casters appear to be getting interrupted by melee (unless they get stunned by bash). Not even a 'you regain concentration' message. Can anyone confirm this?

I haven't gotten a "you regain concentration.." message in all the 16 levels that my enchanter has been around. Should probably be looked into.

In 404,022 lines of combat logging (54MB), I have never received a "regain concentration" message. This log spans 6/28/2010-Present.

I've gotten plenty of them, just not as of late. Used to be that I'd get them on casters other than my ogre shaman, then my ogre shaman started getting them, now no one seems to get them.

I will look into it.

I was just planning to make a report about my gnome cleric's ability to channel spells. He's level 11, and has been melee soloing for a good portion of those levels. Since Sep 12, the only time a heal or nuke has been interrupted, is with a stun, out of range, out of mana, line of sight, death, unstable gate, or intentional ducking or moving. I've not "regained my concentration" on a heal since Sep 12, and not on a nuke since Sep 18. I see others in my log regaining their concentration, even a dwarf cleric I grouped with in Crushbone.

I can also usually get a melee swing in while stunned, but this might just be a client/server sync issue:
[Sun Sep 19 09:48:14 2010] You are stunned!
[Sun Sep 19 09:48:14 2010] A skeleton bashes YOU for 3 points of damage.
[Sun Sep 19 09:48:14 2010] You crush a skeleton for 5 points of damage.
[Sun Sep 19 09:48:15 2010] You are unstunned.
[Sun Sep 19 09:48:16 2010] You crush a skeleton for 10 points of damage.
[Sun Sep 19 09:48:18 2010] You crush a skeleton for 12 points of damage.
