I left a character idling at character select window to preserve his no rent items. It didn't work. Is this classic or not?

This is the bug forum... You tell us.
From my memory in classic, they poofed instantly upon logging. Due to issues with LDs and summoned bags, it was changed such that they would poof after 30min of being offline.
I have no recollection of being at character select being special. If you do, the Internet is your Oyster. Crack it open and post some evidence that supports your memory.

Best way to preserve no rent in a classic manner is to zone and plug. I assume thats' not illegal since people on red plug all the time (tho for different purposes)

If they ever run a classic timeline server, I do hope that "NORENT doesn't poof in the bank" will be there for the first 6(?) months of it.
They should not stay for 30 mins now.
Will be added 4 months in velius :

"No Rent Items will no longer be immediately deleted from your character inventory upon disconnection with the server. If you are disconnected from the servers, or even if you log out, your No Rent items (such as summoned food and water) will remain on your character as long as you log back to that character within 30 minutes. After thirty minutes those No Rent items will be deleted. There may be some extreme cases beyond our control (such as hardware failures) where No Rent items will not be on your character even if you log back in within the 30 minute timeframe. No reimbursement will be given for No Rent items lost in this manner."

I had a corpse with just a summoned mage bag on it holding sky keys
I logged for a while and it poofed
Not sure if this will happen with shadowed rapier etc too but they shouldn't poof off a corpse or cause a corpse to poof if its the only item on it

I have not done anything with no rent items on corpses. They shouldnt poof. Corpsing no rent items should remain an option.
People were bagging no rent items, log in, log right out and back in, and items were useable. This is no longer possible. When chars are loaded, i go through all items in all bags.

This will make sky raids less fun when a mob drop through the floor and the option is to loose all keys or take a wipe, since camping out option isn't possible now.

You should not lose items for 30 minutes. Might be something with going to login screen. But even at login screen, should have 30 min before no rent poof.
Will investigate.

With the 30 minute poof thing in classic (which I don't think was implemented at the point in the time line), if you were logged out to the character select screen your no rent items wouldn't count down. They would also stay if you played a different character on the same account on the same server.
They would only count down if you were at the server select screen, playing a different server or out of the game entirely.
