An unknown error occurred while trying to join the server

I get to the server select screen and get 'an unknown error occurred whilte trying to join the server'.

I've done the classic restart computer but not sure how to sort this? Any tips would be great as all previous posts about the issues say they've been resolved but haven't explained how?
