View Full Version : Game Mechanics: Gate - Death

I encountered a bug when gating, I was casting the spell while under attack, successfully casted Gate and loaded into my bind spot. When I arrived however, I was dead. No death message in chat, nor any you have been knocked unconscious and looking at my poor dumb body before loading out.

*Was at 14pct life when I showed the load screen hit
*Did not have any shielding/HP buffs
*May have had a dot on me, don't believe this could have caused a 14pct drop in HP due to it being a shadow knight dot(Jacker, 44 SK NPC)

I have a screen shot to post but it isn't very helpful besides saying:
Combat Log:
You begin casting Gate.
Guard Swang slashes YOU for 80 points of damage.
Jacker grows stronger.
You feel your strength dwindle.
Jacker punches YOU for 116 points of damage.
Jacker punches YOU for 76 points of damage.
Guard Swang tries to slash YOU, but misses!
You regain your concentration and continue your casting.
Main Log:
LOADING, PLEASE WAIT...
You have entered East Commonlands.

Arrived with the XP loss and no gear, corpse was at the original spot where Gate was casted.

Sounds classic to me, happened all the time, has to do with latency iirc.

Essentially, Client is not synched realtime with server, there is a latency. Gate and final death blow happened at nearly the same time with server recognizing the swing killing you a split second prior to your client showing gate complete. You were already dead when gate went off you just didn't know it yet.

This has been a problem on live server even more lately. Especially with succor/Evac spells. There is even more delay (atleast there was a year or two ago when I played live actively) where my druid would die after evaccing even though in many cases I was at 100% Hp with a train running at me. It was dumb.
