View Full Version : Miscellaneous: Imbued Field Plate (Bertoxxulous) should have Gnome

This may have never been reported because I'm probably one of the few people dumb enough to make this armor, but the useable races/classes are not correct for classic currently. This is what the bracer looks like ingame:

And this is what it looked like in classic:

source: https://web.archive.org/web/20020112001830/http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=5661 (oldest wayback is Jan 2002, but notice the last updated is April 2001)

I think the explanation for this is from a comment on the current Allakhazam page:
Was made one of these by a friend on Terris-Thule (thanks Skrabian!) It is the only cultural armor that a human smith can make for a bertox following gnomish-cleric.

On myself, it appears as a deep red, however, GNOMES have been removed from classes who can wear!!! (happened round the time gnomes could become SKs)

Dunno if any other pieces have changed, but hopefully its just a bug to be fixed source: http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=5661#m101995271076572

I'm guessing maybe they didn't want gnome SKs to wear the armor? But I have no clue why paladin was suddenly added to the classes.

I'd like to know if it was only this piece, or all pieces.

More research!

I hadn't found any other screen shots for other pieces, but I'll try to look some more. You think they had cultural pieces where some pieces were worn by some races, and other pieces weren't? I've honestly never seen that for any of the other cultural armors, and would be shocked if human Bertoxx armor was the exception.

Edit:

Ah, there we go, not screenshots, but something

For completness, here's a list of the wayback links for each piece. There aren't links to some from as far back as the change should have been, but all show they at least had gnome on them at some point (and no paladin), and Alla was probably just slow at updating their site.

I'm not seeing a whole lot else. This armor was probably as uncommon in classic as it is here. I'll post if I find something else though.

why would these have PAL on them at all? Bertoxx Paladin? huh?

Vega

Yeah, I really have no clue about the paladin. I think they were trying to adjust the armor because of the gnome sk/pally change, but they didn't seem to adjust it in a sensible way. Perhaps it was a mistake that they just never fixed.

Also, found a little more evidence, this one an EQTraders link. If you look down the table you can see gnome is one of the races they have listed for the Field Plate - Bertoxxolous:

Stopped reading there

Field Plate - Cazic-Thule
(Human cultural)

Human (male / female)
Barbarian (male / female)
Wood Elf (male / female)
Half Elf (male / female)
Dwarf (male / female)
Gnome (male / female)
Halfling (male / female)

Cazic-Thule has never been a human deity.

Nope, obviously some misinformation on there. I definitely wouldn't have posted it if it was my only proof. But in conjunction with the rest I still think it's valid.

Edit: They seem to have corrected their site later that year, so CT armor is gone, but gnome bert is still showing:

Sullon Zek added deity's to race/class combos that were not otherwise possible and may have had an impact on what displays on items globally

My 2cp hope it halps

Bump. Thoughts?

A couple quotes from cleric forums which seem to imply gnomes having deity restricted Bertoxx armor. The only armor I could find in the data base that could possibly match that is the Imbued Field Plate (although the year was 2003, so maybe they were going off of old Alla data at the time):

I picked Gnome because a gnome cleric is just about as "unique" as you can get in the game(I think there are 5 to 10 on Xev over 50). Tinkering is fun when I have the time and money.

Brell is my diety just because bertoxx cultural was harder to find. Not that I even wore any cultural I wish I would have went bert now.http://www.eqclerics.org/forums/showpost.php?p=181082&postcount=18

Brell because my gnome warrior is also a Brell worshipper, so I could share cultural between them. If I'd known that Brell armor lacked wisdom on neck and boots, I might have gone Bristlebane, but I didn't know. Worked out well, since imbued Rubies (Brell) or Black Sapphires (Bertox) are needed for gnome cultural.http://www.eqclerics.org/forums/showpost.php?p=181139&postcount=30

Human cultural is one of the more verstital for lots of different races to use

Karana human , half elf , Wood elf

Rallos zek: Human, Barbarian, Half elf, Hafling, Wood elf.

Rodcet nife : Human, Wood Elf , Half ElF

Innoruuk: Human , Half Elf

Rallos zek: Human, Barbarian, Half elf, Hafling, Wood elf.

You forgot Dwarf and Gnome :D

(shameless bump)

Oh, actually, I never noticed this but Dwarf warriors on this server can't be RZ. Is that correct? I wonder if the armor is wrong, the ability to select is wrong, or it's just a classic discrepancy. It does seem odd because I thought someone told me any warrior, regardless of race, could be RZ.

Edit: Hmm, DWF def supposed to be on there.

Edit2: Ah, classic inconsistency:
It's religious armor, too. Dark Elf Warriors can worship Rallos Zek. What gets me though is.. No Dwarf can worship Rallos Zek, I guess because their main religion is opposed to Rallos Zek.. read the EQ stories to know why. I can't believe Verant doesn't know this, and we do

Sorry about the self-debate :)

Bump

To recap:

-Classic bracer SS showing gnome, only question was if other pieces had, which was raised by comment wondering if other pieces had lost gnome
-Secondary evidence on both Alla and EQtraders saying that all pieces were gnome wearable
-Anecdotal evidence from EQClerics with posts talking about gnome cultural which required black sapphires

Bump

I've done a bit of digging, but haven't found much more. Is it possible to get another dev comment? Is this still insufficient on evidence or is this just one of those things that hasn't had much time to get looked at?

Fixed, pending update

-All pieces of Imbued Field Plate (Bertox) are now gnome usable
-Removed PAL from available classes
