View Full Version : Drunken Norrath Biathlon -- Kelethin to Rivervale

I'm thinking of organizing a race from Kelethin to Rivervale. The idea is to drop your gear in the bank (if you want), drink as much booze as possible, then hit the ground running and swimming from the highest platforms in Kelethin, through the relative safety of BBM, start swimming through the Ocean of Tears, across the commons, and through Kithicor.
The rules are no SoWs or levitates, you MUST swim across the OOT, you MUST be drunk to start with and are encouraged to be the entire time. We can have a few officiators following the group with SoW/levitate to make sure no one cheats. Dangers include falling to your death from the top of Kelethin, getting eaten by sharks in the OOT, killed by the random griffin in the Commons, or getting slaughtered in Kithicor at night.
Prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place, but I don't have enough to fund it myself. Maybe we could do an entry fee or something.
So who is in?

Didn't think you could zone into OOT and out of OOT when you arent on the boat?

This is true.
Also even max swimming it would probably take about 45 minutes to swim across.

Hmm...buzzkill. I didn't know you couldn't do that. I'm going to try it out. Is that a bug that can be fixed? Otherwise, we could just do a Freeport to Qeynos run.

Its not a bug, its actually classic (and live IIRC) you cant zone unless your on the boat.

It's not a bug, its how it was on live as well, the race from FP to Qeynos would be interesting tho...
I like this idea, but based off Alcohol Tolerance some people will have a unfair advantage, probably better to just make it a flat out race, ofcourse people who have better zone times would have a adavantage too...
As the pack splits up following and ensuring no cheating occurs will become harder.........
really to make this 100% fail safe the best way would be to create a temporary guild (P99 Biathlon Runners) or something more clever.....that way you could sit at the finish and announce START at which time you would start a stopwatch
Let the runners be in grps of 3 that way you only need 6 Refs....the refs would need to be bards or a sow class so they could leap frog each other....meaning......
The Race begins, 3 refs are in FP, 3 waiting at zone in of WC each runner has 2 refs assigned to him, this way it doesnt matter who zones faster we have a ref waiting on the other side of the zone for him....
You time it all so then you can post on forums everyones time, that way no matter how many ppl participate by doing 3 ata time you can limit the need for more refs, and you can stretch the event over the course of however much time is needed, this will make it easier for runners to be paired up and work around peoples schedules also
after every runner has finished you take the 3 best times and give them awards, be prepared to have a system ready for a tie-breaker too, and we need to figure something out for Highhold Pass, as any lower lvls might have a tough time training thru this and we dont want to make it too much of a pita....random deaths is one thing, but 20/30 runners all dien in the same zone would be silly...

not to mention the zone disruption that would follow...

I'm in! Even if we have to take a boat it will be like the pit stop, but it should be all the way to Qeynos Docks. and we have to collect bard letters from every city along the way or something.

You know, having a continent-wide race sounds pretty sweet and all, but also like it could be a logistical nightmare.
Why not just have a drunken, lvl 1's only, race across Kelethin?

Drunk level 1's work great for something like this. And the boats are a fun bottleneck. Nothing beats seeing a naked level 1 gnome miss a boat by a few feet, fall into the water, and get eaten by a shark.

Yea something just for fun. no need to over complicate it with rules. a bunch of drunk lvl 1 elfs running accross the world!

I say start with gnomes in Ak'anon.
I mean they're tiny, have a pathetic corpse look, and run a lot less gracefully than elves. Ak'anon is also farther away from anything than Kelethin is if I recall correctly. I think that's why gnomes are always chosen for these nekkid events.
You could have the gnomes start at the bottom of Ak'anon and swim their way to the front. There's plenty of places for swimming like the shore in Nro, Oasis, Innothule swamp, Lake Rathetear, etc, that are on the way to Qeynos.
The problem will be having refs in all of those zones making sure that the scheming little bastards don't cheat!

I like this, keep it simple. Just level 1 gnomes/dwarves/elfs. My vision is to have a good number of people, like at least 50+. It will be hilarious to watch people pouring over the edges of the Kelethin bridges as they all try to get through at the same time, drunk of course.
The boat wouldn't necessarily be a deal breaker, it's just sort of a pain since sometimes it takes a long time. We could always time it out so that the boat arrives right as people start getting there, but if you're slow you miss it. We could always make it a rule that you have to jump off of the boat once you zone in to
If it were just to Rivervale, then we wouldn't have to worry about Highpass or anything. We could just have a few people clearing the orcs and gnolls that guard the entrances.
I like the idea of having a few "checkpoints", where people have to drink more booze to go on.
Prizes would have to be high enough so that lots of people participate. Something like 1st: 400pp, 2nd: 200pp, 3rd: 100pp, and 25pp each for 4th-10th to ensure that enough people actually try. I don't have enough to finance it myself, but maybe some rich person / guild could.
Let me know about your thoughts, people.

if you change the liquor drinking from ingame to IRL I will definitely participate.

Anything that involves a boat would be a bad idea, barring deaths the first group to hit the boat would have a massive advantage over the rest.
Also, Provide a bind spot at certain locations like HHK if they want to take the time to get the bind they can.

Just make it a Naked Gnome run. always a blast.
Luclin Server used to have one a month around Lake Rathe. Short distance that can be done in about half an hour. I like the idea of Feeport to Queynos, but it could take 2 hours to complete. Not including deaths.
The race would be dock to dock and all participants must be unbuffed, naked level one warriors bound at the Freeport gate.

Haha we did a race like this at a lan party back in 99. Naked run from freeport to queynos. Was fun!

How about you have a drunk race from the south end of kelethin to the Orc lift?

Just reading the idea made me laugh and it sounds like a good time!
Just come up with the event time/date/rules and I will be there.

Do a naked drunken level 1 halfling race from Misty Thicket to the EC tunnel, at night through Kith, no wall hugging! Whoever is alive at the other side wins. :)

You can make it through, you just need to make sure there's enough people in front of you keeping the skellies occupied until you zone. Remember, you don't have to outrun the mob, just the other players :-)
