For anyone coming over from P99 here some of the ways Zek differs from P99.

The Basics: Two team pvp server with item loot. Limited zones to classic, nexus (safe zone), bazaar/sh (pvp merchants), and 4 custom zones. Level 50 will be the max level.

General Gameplay
1. Much faster Leveling.
x2 or x3 and rotating hotzones. (TBD)
No hybrid xp penalty.
Doesn’t have group xp bonus, but overall more xp per kill.
Level caps to help people with lower play time keep up. Example: First week max level is level 20. Then a week of level 30 etc.

2. Spell file (Similar to ZAM’s database)

Casters do more damage.
Melee do more damage when geared.
Monks are the best afk dps.
Mages OP at lower levels.
Melee have it rough until they get resist gear which can be hard to get in classic.
3. Pets.
Pets zone with you but come out on other side before you finish zoning and at half health. Enemy can kill your pet if you’re not careful. This make epic pets viable.
Pets can tank. On P99 if you go into melee range the npc will switch to you. That doesn’t happen on zek. This includes charmed npcs. Example: In Velious you can have a charmed giant to tank AoW for you. Good for lower population server. Warriors still tanked zones like ToV where there was nothing to charm.
You can give an npc weapons then kill it to get the weapons back.
Malachite and Bone chips can be bought from vendors for 1cp and stack to 100.
Pet window shows pet buffs.

[li]On charmed pets you can see the charm duration.
Go away works. Tip: To recharm cast charm and click go away right before spell finishes.

4. Boxing. Limited to 2.
5. Inventory item loot on pvp kill. 1 item
6. No petition quest. For the most part GMs are hands off unless someone is cheating, exploiting, or something is broken. There are systems in place to catch cheaters.
7. You can save spell sets and right click gems. No need to go through spell book.
8. Researched spells are sold in east commons tunnel.
9. Items stack to 100 instead of 20.
10. Items vendor for less. (Half) Slightly harder to make pp.
11. Dispelling a group member only gets rid of debuffs. If you dispel yourself you can hit buffs.
12. Revamped version of most zones.
13. When you die in PVP you respawn with your gear. No corpse run.
14. Sitting gains agro. More noticeable at lower levels, but if you get on the agro list then sit you will generate agro per tick. It’s probably the same amount regardless of level which is why it isn’t a big deal at higher levels.
15. Good Low level money spot: South Ro Orcs. They can drop masks that sell for 2pp and helms that sell for 6pp.
16. Naggy and Vox are extremely buffed.
17. Factions increase and decrease much faster. If velious was open you could get max ally to dragons in an hour or two.
18. PvP kills result in everyone in the group getting a ticket. The turn in spot for tickets is in east commons tunnel. Might be moved to bazaar. Turning a ticket in gives you a pvp point and some money. Points are used to buy various items like potions, spells, equipment, epics etc.
19. Hybrids have a lot more mana. Same int/wis to mana ratio as casters.
20. PVP window works. Leaderboard stats etc (ctrl + p by default). Leaderboard doesn’t show number of deaths.
21. Infamy mechanic to prevent out of range healing and low level training. High infamy allows anyone to attack you. You gain infamy by healing someone out of your pvp range (out of range healers) or by agroing mobs that are much higher level than you (low lvl training).
22. Can’t bind in dungeons.
23. You can recharge items to one charge by selling and buying it back. (not worth imo)
24. High cooldown on insta click damage items. Example: 8 hour cooldown on red wood wand.
25. You can proc on corpses and team members. No weapon swing animation. Useful for overthere hammer and buff procs.
26. Translocators. No waiting on boats.
27. You can port to surefall.
28. Nexus ports
North = Gfay and Butcherblock.
South = South Ro and Tox
East = North Karana
West = West Commons

Items
1. Free stat food (Misty Thicket Picnic) and starter gear from Reefman the Generous. He is in most newbie zones.
2. Manastone’s can be used in any zone. Drops from Evil Eye in lower guk.

Damage can break root.
Killing yourself ports you to bind with gear (melee gate).

3. Jboots

Drops off of Najena in Najena.
They do not drop off of Drelzna.
The quest does not work. It’s meant to be a pvp camp.

4. AoN’s drop off golems in plane of fear.
5. Box of Abu-Kar drops off Spectre in Oasis, Feerrott, Ocean of Tears.
6. Diamonds can drop off lower guk named. (important for jewelcrafting resist gear)
7. Pegasus feather cloak – Trigger spawns near lake zone and paths to Splitpaw. Quillmane has three spawns. One by hermit, one by centaurs, and one west of aviaks on the wall. The west wall spawn doesn’t path, but the other spawns do.
8. Rubicite drops randomly off trash in Cazic Thule. High chance, but BP is somewhat rare.
9. Items from custom zones can roll higher stats. You can have two of the same item, but both have different stats.

4 custom zones. Here are the zone in locations
Pinnacle Caves - West side of Nexus - Hail the gnome. LvL 8-23ish. Can't zone in if you're over LvL 30

Mirguals chamber - Everfrost south east corner. South of perma. Level 20+

Western Ro - Oasis near orc highway. Level 22+

Bastion of Thunder - Lavastorm near nektulos zone. Under lava. LvL 50+



City take over (all of this might change)

To take over a city you have to kill all of the guards before they respawn. The guards you need to kill will have a guild tag and when you kill one it will tell you how many are left in the zone. For some cities you might have to clear two or three zones.

Once you own a town you can buy upgrades in east common tunnels. You buy cards and hand them to one of your guards. You can give your guard levels, hp, class spells, ports etc. Giving your guard a class spell basically gives you a buff bot. Make the guard lvl 60 and give it a cleric card and now it will buff passerby’s with aegoism. If you give your guard a port card you can hail it to get port options. You can also kill the enemy team’s guards or take their town to prevent them from having them / make them waste money. Caps for guard level/hp/armor etc TBD. By default guards are set to friendly, but the owner can make them hostile to non-team members.

Respawning with your gear is lame, but it's less lame than red99's LNS. When someone breaks LNS rules you have to get a gm involved and there's a bunch of crying. In both cases the result is the same. You get your corpse back without having to pvp. PVE death still drops a corpse. The dispel mechanic is to prevent some ass from joining your team to dispel grief you.

Thank god, I was on the fence but that solidifies my decision to start up over there.

Server should be fun, as always.

Main difference this time around are server resets, which they hope will provide some sort of longevity.

Not sure how I feel about the resets yet, but after 6 months every one may be ready for a reset. Not to mention, it will be interesting to see what new things roll out every season/if there are season rewards pending on how well you do.

It just feels like those rules take it more in the direction of WoW/battlegrounds... which kind of detracts from the flavor that EQ brings with it to pvp.

You don't have to box to compete, you will just need to rely on others more. Instead of your guild needing 6 people you may need 10 if a couple people don't want to box. If you are a warm body and just along for the ride you don't need to box, but I guarantee you the ones holding your small crew together will be and you will benefit from it.

People look at boxing as a disadvantage but it really isn't. You add less to your guild but your character will probably be better geared and you will be more efficient in PvP. The ones making the sacrifice to help better gear your character will be 2 boxing. They will have the support classes that are targeted when you are jumped and probably have the most deaths.

On a server like project 1999 2 boxing is a decision to where a server like Zek it is a must. The Devs are very active and wouldn't hesitate to shut down 2 boxing if they saw the population growing and didn't want it anymore. They add in conveniences to help a small community get by and take them away if the community grows.

If only 25 unique players are logged in you don't want to be stuck somewhere waiting for a port or lfg.

I forgot to mention in my differences thread. On Zek you have less than 30 seconds to accept a translocate or res. Prevents people from running around with an open translocate box to escape pvp.

For PVE it allows you to do 90% of content with a 4 or 6 man crew. You can absolutely roll around without boxes and wreck people. It also allows people to play the class they want to play but still be able to have enough clerics to do content.

This means you can get loots without having to recruit warm bodies to play support/buff classes. This will be a bit of a shock to the warm body crowd who is used to zerg surfing for loot and security.

I have had fun on devnoob/image servers in the past and it has been designed for low investment casual pvp server, pretty much the opposite of Raid99.

Played a velious paladin who plugs every time he's ever in danger of dying. Boasts his pvp record despite not being able to beat a warrior with worse gear 1v1 in 10 straight fights.

Every EQ server will have autists and attention seekers, however after the community meltdowns that occurred between minnesota and jersey crew, and skazo/darksinga and kringe crew, we've tried to police ourselves better and not be complete alpha dicks to each other 24/7.

Nobody boxes in pvp really, those that do pay for it dearly and it shows in the yellow text. The common practice when engaging a group who is boxing is to go after the support classes that are being boxed to get 100% free yt right away.

If you don't want to box, you'll probably still find a home. You're only hurting yourself in terms of leveling/farming/raiding if you don't though. The content is really easy and it's not hard to find 2 easy classes to box (afk monk is the best dps in the game...by far...with bare fists).

Yeah it's his first time, but he's not coming in as blind as most. I had a good hour log talk with him in skype kind of giving him the rundown of what to expect and how pve is kind of done.

Wow skazo is still around huh..missed the Darksinga beef. I do remember crazy tinfoil a few boxes ago about Skazo being tight with the staff and/or on staff and it causing some really angry and bitter rivalry.

Then the next box later any inkling of him getting any type of treatment was a complete nonfactor so the tinfoil went away.

I know a few people who would still swear Skazo is suspect or refuse he isn't the recipient of nepotism. But like I said it became a non issue on the next few boxes.

You can swap teams every 3 days. So just find a pal to roll with, if there are people on your team you don't like just swap when you can. Nobody really knows what side they're rolling yet, as there are no actual advantages to either side. Every class/race can join either team.

I wouldn't go that far, we do unfortunately have Skazo over there...who in the last box went under a different name and denied he was Skazo the majority of the time. Played a velious paladin who plugs every time he's ever in danger of dying. Boasts his pvp record despite not being able to beat a warrior with worse gear 1v1 in 10 straight fights.

Every EQ server will have autists and attention seekers, however after the community meltdowns that occurred between minnesota and jersey crew, and skazo/darksinga and kringe crew, we've tried to police ourselves better and not be complete alpha dicks to each other 24/7.

Skazo is honestly a very nice dude who was extremely helpful to all of his guildies. He and I both brought on more bluebies/new people to the server with open arms than any other guild. We were dissed pretty hard because of this, but we were just trying to promote a better server. With that being said, things were gone about the wrong way and I am glad there will be no PnP on this upcoming server.

I am sure same goes for Lime; you would think a guy who names his character Hitler is a douchebag but I'm sure he's a very nice guy to his teammates. Truth is, the more successful you are, the more haters you will have.

I had a lot of fun playing with Dentists on the last dev/image box. The simple fact that there is a PVP vendor with unique items makes even gearcentric individuals actively seek out and engage in PVP. The server is about PVP, PVE is the secondary option. PVE was much more engaging because you're generally two boxing and being assigned multiple important tasks, due to the fact that it isn't a 60 man raid (more like a 6 man raid). I don't recall a single time two boxing in intentional PVP, it slows you down as a group and the drawbacks outweigh the benefits.

The only loot drama I ever heard in TS was too many people telling each other to take a good item.

If you play there, don't take shit too serious and don't try to be one of those people who solo farms fungus tunics (i.e. find a crew early on) you'll have a good time, I guarantee it. If you want to fight other players in EverQuest, it is miles ahead of R99.

Kringe also got the server first red text on Konstance in the hole after we kept him mezzed for about 5 minutes, to allow kringe to get there for the killshot.

Last box was no level caps velious and the first day we hit level 40 while the rest of the server struggled to get to 20. So there was nobody for us to pvp, we weren't gonna waste time running around ganking at low levels when you didn't get tickets/points until level 50. Not to mention the object of velious is the gear progression cycle. Sadly we had to wait more than a week for people to even get to 50 while we had already farmed a bunch of HoT armor, and needed like 3 more st keys to start farming primal.

I would do that on Red99 if I played more but if I just played with a small crew here I wouldn't be able to progress well enough. If you are a casual on red99 you are gimped unless you are in a big guild. Small crews rely on high playtime and don't cater well to someone that jumps on at random times for a couple hours.

On the zek server you can do most of the content with a couple people 2 boxing in addition to really high exp rates and better drop rates. They also have rewards like epics from PvP points so for a casual that wants to play with a small crew it is easier. The group I played with had 2 solid players that were always on and able to do content together and then 3 of us that were casual that joined in when we were on.

No the map is still there, and i don't understand your issue with it. There has to be a cluster of players for you to show up, and it encourages pvp to take place. One of the most irritating parts of red was always the fact that most people hide from pvp the majority of their time online.

I strongly recommend logging in now and making sure you can access zones, get your client set up, set up your ui's etc. There are several people online testing everything out. Nerfed, myself, and devn00b have been on pretty frequently to help people out with any issues they have.

Anti Cheats have been solid here, we ran into alot of false positives a few servers back where as people had gotten banned for glitchs in their anti cheat, but dev/image are cool and arent stupid, they know when shit is happening and isnt...

Tbh, its been pretty fair fighting, and the community already knows to much about mq, so if someones doing shadey shit it gets called out immediately.

The great thing about this server is dev/image are usually on 24/7 or damn near close to it and can address issues people find abusive or detrimental to the server.


They are open to changes and whats better for the community as well, and are huge proponents of pvp.

Jeremy it reminds us alot of the old vz/tz boxs.. Quick lvling/easy pve lots of pvp. (i know u didnt play them) but the pvp is just a blast.

Its not a Lifequest-Macequest server. The resets are appropriate to the type of wham bam thank you ma'am style of gameplay you will find on this server.

Its a good time and the reset only serves to save people from themselves when the box is finished. The devs don't just randomly say "OK well that's it folks" and wipe your stuff pal. Its done when the community is done playing. Participate in the community in some fashion, and you will never feel a reset at all.

Now if you want to solo farm and acquire Jeremy/sickrmtpuppy levels of platinum over the course of a few years standing alone and playing by yourself with your head in the dirt, and that is your idea of fun, then yeah this probably isn't the server for you.

Don't let the word temporary deter you from checking this out. It is not P99, it doesn't play like P99. Its actually fun.

You don't really need to play much to keep up. I was pretty damn casual and hit level cap every time on Rolfron with weeks to spare. If they go that pace again, its hard to feel left out of the action.

Weekend warriors welcome. Every other weekend, might be welcome at first too. How it worked on Rolfron was the higher level average (40) started demanding cap raises and putting pressure on staff so after awhile it ended up being full steam ahead.

1-40 brackets were snail pace and a lot of people appreciated it. Probably too slow, as the nolifers had a pent-up berg out around level 40 and staff caved to pressure.

Crossover, Wine, Bootcamp will work.

I want to say there are some VMs that act up and are banned though. Same for certain proxy progs. like Hotspot Shield. This is all to prevent boxing over the 2 or 3 or whatever the limit will be.

Instead of using the patcher , you manually download files and add them to your eq folder just like on p99 , really easy . Only downside I see playing on a Mac is the keyboard problem and the mouse not letting you do U turns

I actually fixed this a few months ago the first day I installed p99 on a mac. It was before the last OS update. I can't get it working since then, i've tried so much shit i've confused myself, but i believe I just edited the client size in wineskin advanced options to match my monitor resolution.

Basically when you hit full screen in-game on using p99 on wineskin the client crashes. I had it so it was not crashing, and hitting full screen fixed the problem.

But ya since updating OS I can't fix problem now =/

Devnoob boxes are perfect for these ladder type runs which is what a lot of players like. HC Ladder for life in diablo 2. Would love if there was a perma HC ladder system for EQ as well. Hopefully Devnoob servers can fill this niche.

Devnoob server has the in game leader board (the only real way to do it)

And also has a tool on his forums for looking up the LB and player stats, it's very nice

I believe it also record server first loots for those players (including pvp ears, when they did that)

I messaged lite on skype about that last night actually as our crew had some worries about it. If his crew is going to be big enough I plan to make sure our crews are separated.

We weren't sure originally because initially when I had talked to lite we only had 4 people from our crew committed to playing. Once this thread blew up though everyone came out of the woodworks and hopped into TS.

My playtime will be quite limited, but I am bringing along some savages.

I'm hoping it will be possible to catch up to hardcore players quick on this server.
It won't be a 24/7 grind fest race the first few weeks like previous boxes were.

With this possibly being the least PvE focused server yet it will be interesting to see how PvP will work when 2-3 groups are just roaming around looking for the other groups to PvP with no focus on PvE content.

We wont recruit and zerg it up, we will keep the same 5-6 guys we have for every iteration of the boxs. I do hope others can come together to give small skirmishs and competition where it needs to be. The problem has been really no one has stepped up to take the reigns to get people together.

We do know the box inside and out, it is an advantage, however i am confident there are others who also should know the box now and with their knowledge and the quality of players lite and others can bring to have fun, it should make for a decent server..

Remember this is level locked so there will be no significant gear advantage or level advantage for people to be upset about. We will all be on the same playing field, pretty much the entirety of the server. This will only be classic, theres not a lot people dont know, just adjusting to the bigger hitbox (should be an advantage for p99ers), spell system and class makeup is the only difference.

I can personally vouch for this. After getting a real feel for the p99 hit box, I loaded back onto this box and it felt like I stepped out of the hyperbolic time chamber. Timed nearly every combat round perfectly and was accused of hacking by Skazo for the entirety of the time I was back.

Nerfed and lime (Dentists*) are probably some of the most active bug reporters.

The developers on eqpvp compared to p99 are night and day in terms of communication and availability. Nobody is exploiting.
