I didn't see a thread about this, despite many people talking about how irritating it is.
Currently if you are summoned by an npc (or a gm ;p), Charm will break.
Also worthy of note, if you have a charmed pet in the zone you're bound in, and you cast gate to warp to your bind point, charm will also break. I can only assume these two issues are related.
The bug isn't that bad on current p99, but it SUCKS on kunark beta because everything summons. heh.
Anyways. Take a look if you can.

The next issue, which is a completely different mechanic is not really that noticable unless you're fighting summoning mobs.
I'm sure people have seen enemies engaged on NPCS (pets), and then suddeny jump in the direction of a PC with aggro for about half a second before engaging pets again? This seems to happen and random and doesnt really mean anything unless the mob summons, where..... they'll summon in that exact moment.
So you can send a charmed pet on a summoning mob. stand around doing absolutely nothing to gain aggro, suddenly get summoned, charm breaks, and you die (unless you're me and live like a boss)

I first noticed gate breaking charm after that last big wave of faction war fixes. Seems it was broken unintentionally when trying to fix gating out of zone with a charmed pet sometimes causing a faction war. It would happen rarely but it wasn't obvious what exactly had to be going on to cause it. Apparently the fixer just made any kind of teleport strip charm. Kind of like how charming an NPC strips all of it's debuffs off of you, presumably to prevent yet another faction war issue.

I'll take a look later, there shouldn't be any need for a specific break to charm on gating because it would be handled by the client destructor anyways when you zone.

happened in sol b today, not sure if it was ever looked into or not but would break on every summon by fg warrior

Can confirm summoning mobs break charm, can be annoying on raids but its not too bad there, but i can only imagine how bad it sucks in kunark.

O.o this isn't classic? This is what I get for not researching well enough.
I can confirm this- whenever I get ported by scarelings in fear or summoned by anything, charm instantly breaks every single time.

might be the same bug just with gate instead of summon .

/pet guard and "gate"
if you let your pet guard somewhere and use the gate spell in the same zone , the pet will instantly follow you and ignore the /pet guard command until you type this command again .
(infos:lvl 49 pet in oot , char is bound in oot too, using "gate" spell, 100 % to repicate with several chars )
