View Full Version : Lost faction while AFK for kills

In Kurn's I was killing skeletons all day, and partied up with a player who wanted to camp Jester with me. In the whole time I've been in Kurns (18-20), I haven't killed or been in a party with someone who killed a single Burynai. I know this because I've only been in a party with one person, a monk, and both of us were running through the lowest level killing skeletons and not aggroing a single Burynai.

Today I was playing with a druid who said if I didn't do anything at all, they could kill a Burynai and I would get the XP without losing any faction. I'd been playing for four hours prior to this, including running straight through several of them, and nothing aggrod to me. I sat through the first one, didn't touch or target anything, and it gave me XP without showing a faction message. So I figured it worked. That was the only one I was present for.

I guess they killed at least one more while I was AFK later on, because as I was running around looking for skeletons I suddenly became uncamouflaged and a bunch of Burynai ganked me. People keep telling me this is impossible, but it happened.

What can be done? I died once more while trying to get my corpse the first time. The second attempt I managed to get both corpses and drag them to the entrance of Kurn's, but now I can't even play in the basement which was the only safe area for me to solo as a wizard. Is there a way to reset my faction with them? Can I at least have my corpses res'd so I don't lose 6 hours of gameplay because of a bug?

This is not necessarily the right place to post this question.

But I'll try my best to answer it.

There is no way to fix Burynai Legion (http://wiki.project1999.com/Burynai_Legion) faction. Welcome to everquest. There are factions that you can lower on p99 that you will never be able to raise again. Most people don't care. I do so I suggest if you do care. Do research on the mobs you're planning to kill. This means you could potentially make quests, items, etc unavailable to your character because you killed a few certain mobs. This means you should also be aware of what your parties intentions are. Make it clear you do not want to kill certain mobs and that if they cant stop themselves from killing those mobs you should find another group.

It didn't seem to fit the other bug forums. I've accepted it and moved on already, well beyond fixing the faction now, but if it wasn't clear in my original post I was not supposed to get a faction hit. I didn't target, move, cast, or attack anything while the other party member got the kills. I've been told I shouldn't have gotten a faction hit from what happened, and if I knew about logging at the time I'd have shown that there was never a faction loss message. They turned hostile anyway.

Were the players that told me this was possible mistaken? Will you always get a faction hit for a party member's kills even if you're doing literally nothing but medding?

Thick boned skeleton gives burynai faction hits. It is a Jester PH.

You don't get faction hits for grouping with players. You only get faction hits for aggroing a mob, e.g. by attacking a mob, or assisting a player that is attacking a mob with beneficial spells (or casting on a player who casted on a player (...) who is fighting a mob).

I am 90% certain that you must have healed/buffed/aggroed this thick boned skeleton by accident, without realising it gave burynai hits.

Burynai give minotaurs TB anyway, so should be culled.

Thick boned skeleton would do it, I didn't know those gave burynai faction hits. I knew it couldn't have been from burynai themselves. Any reason for the shared faction on that specific skeleton?

Thanks for the answer, it's comforting to know it was an intended game mechanic and not a bug.

I took he was big boned because he was a burynai in his life. Maybe a hero of kunark. Perhaps the burynai had come to kurns to dig him out.
