This one's got a twist though. Yes, I really hate the dot messages going away. You melee types like to see what you hit for, right? You nukers like to see what yours landed for, right? Well, same with us.

However, this was done wednesday night so you can see the messages. Notice the second Heat Blood. It only does 2/3 of the damage. It's not because it's moving because the engulfing darkness does it's full damage. If I didn't see the messages I wouldn't know it didn't do full. The only indication I have that it may be bugged is the messages (not saying it is, there might be a reason for it that I'm not thinking of, I just came back to EQ after nearly 20 years).

The only argument I've seen against the messages is that they weren't in at launch. In my opionion, that's a stupid argument.

So why does that second Heat Blood only do 11 damage? I didn't think partial resists were possible on dots...

That’s literally the only argument that matters here.

Not in at original launch? Not supposed to be in now. Get over it.

ROFLMAO. Yes because we're completely inconsistent about what we defend as classic. I'm okay with removing them because it makes the game more challenging because they felt like it or for any reason but the it's more classic thing is a damn joke and an obvious one.

I'm playing a necro and the no dot msg was for sure a kick to the nads.. but if it's classic. I accept it. Just makes things more interesting!

Left out pertinent info. I'm whining about blue. Keep green without them, I'm cool with that. I'd like my DOT messages on blue though!

However, I'm grateful for the environment that's provided to me free of charge and will continue playing regardless!

edit: typo, I hate posting from my phone...

For green sure, and even for blue the devs are the only ones that matter. But I'd still like to see them on blue.

I know the devs don't want to fork the patches and maintain two sets of patch files for the indefinite future (and I don't blame them). I just didn't think that so many of the green 'bonuses' were going to flow into blue as well...

Let's forget the whole 'should we see dots' for a moment. Why would one dot do full damage on a tick and the other dot only do 2/3?

Is it possible to get partially resisted on a tick?

Is the 'tick' not instantaneous? Can it be moving for one dot in the tick but stationery the next? I assumed it was instantaneous.

Some other reason I'm not thinking of?

The real question is why didn't anyone between '99 and '03 seem to care enough that it took that long for the change to find its way into EQ. People really thought about and approached gaming much differently back then didn't they?

I mean druids complained constantly about being a nerfed end game class and they started to get a lot of love in luclin and beyond.

I guess nobody complained that what their dots were doing was a total mystery.

Yes, I’ve seen this behavior before - usually when I have a stack of effects and one wears off at the tick (I.E. fear or root breaks). In those cases, generally what I’ve seen is that whatever effects I stacked before the fear/root will tick for full damage, and those stacked afterwards will tick for reduced damage. I’ve also seen it while using a pet to tank, if for whatever reason the mob changes targets (and therefore starts moving).

TL;DR: Ticks aren’t truly instantaneous (because code doesn’t execute that way); small hiccups like that are definitely possible.

I can assure you that we were whining about it quite vociferously on eqnecro.com back in the day!

Wait, they removed the dot messages on purpose? Why the hell did they do it on blue? They didn't have that by velious? Total crap.

We are currently at the following stage of grief over DoT ticks:
...............Here............................... ................................
Denial -> Anger -> Bargaining -> Depression -> Acceptance

Before you know it they'll make invigor a useful spell and people will be crying about their endurance bar <3

...and have everyone set to a minimum ping of 200-250

In summary: Things could be more classic :)
