View Full Version : Potential "fix" for the stone /list
Just make the manastone be awarded randomly to anyone on the list instead of a set order.
if you camp it for longer, you'll still get many more rolls at getting one, while even average/normal players would have a chance at grabbing one. The mult-users campers will still have advantage, not it they wouldn't be able to lock it down.
Problem solved.
The intent of the list was to prevent small sets of people monopolizing the camps, this is probably the only realistic way to accomplish it.
As a fun side note, everyone will be exited when an eye pops.

Just make the lockout longer
I'm not sure it will solve the current issues with it. Not much the camp will still only be held by multi account users.

My suggestions was to award DKP for every hour spent at the camp, and award the active current player with the highest DKP the stone. This means time invested is rewarded, and you don't have to camp for days on end. Keep the AFK checks, keep the list, just let people log off and sleep FFS. It also means I can camp a manastone slowly, a few hours a day, and maybe get one.

people would just log in, not even worry about afk check . relog in again. repeat.

You need an hour of AFK checks, OR make each DKP 1 AFK check. Every AFK check you make gives you a DKP, that fixes that problem entirely.

Some people wont get list items. Set realistic goals.

You are all dreaming, they arent going to waste a bunch of time working on a system they already wasted time on for the benefit of others, not everyone is going to get a manastone that is just the way it is, life happens and you dont always get what you want, be glad they even put a /list option in the game in the first place or most you wouldnt even have a 1% chance of getting a stone.

I suppose it could work and it would be reasonably fair. However, it would probably require significant rework of the current system and I don't think the Rog and co. would want to have to do so much to get it working. My suggestion should be fairly simple since nothing changes except a random number at the end, basically. i wanted to suggest something that realistically could get implemented.

Doesn't seem that hard to add a variable to the database that counts afk checks. I barely know SQL, and I could write that.
If anything all of the code that have created makes it EASIER to implement this. All the nuts and bolt are already there, the distance code, the list, all of it can be added to this with a single change to who is #1 on the list, and a variable.
Its not as if I want a manastone, I could care less. I DO want the player base to be healthy, and not be forced to account share to get items. I want to reward players for time invested, and not expect them to go DAYS without sleep.

I think this idea has merit.
Reading the other thread and understanding basic human nature I'm worried someone will die before a change is made however. I hope it doesn't come to that but us EQ neckbeards seem a tad stubborn.

I always find these armchair breakdowns of how to implement a feature to be so damn cringey.

Seems somewhat unfair and doesn't guarantee that it solves the issue. If it's totally random, you'll likely get so many more people on the list thereby significantly decreasing the % chance that each member would win a given roll. As such, the odds are decent that you'd still end up with people sitting there for days on end. Sure, they could log off and just try again later, but if there's tons of people on the list such that the % chance of winning each time is small, there will be crazies who will want to take advantage of every opportunity they can to win given their small possibility and they'll just stay awake for tens of hours doing so. And sure, there might not be as many of those people, but there will be some and there's not many ways to guarantee that there wouldn't be besides upping the drop rate of the MS; so why implement a somewhat unfair system that can't guarantee it will solve the issue 100%.

There will never be a solution to cater to everyone. The system in place is in the spirit of how camps in all of classic EverQuest were handled, except that it prevents players from simply handing off to their friends / guildmates / alts / etc.
It's not perfect, and there are ways that it could be improved, but it works. It's not that bad and I don't think any other changes will be made.
Make manastone Lore No Drop and issue is solved.
No more farming bots or people grabbing multiples to horde for later.
It will be those who need it that come not everyone trying to get in on the get rich quick scheme.

the problem with the list hasn't even began to surface yet...the average player is only level 15-20 or so now...imagine when they hit 35, LOL...only the 2% of the server pop that is getting them now will be able to camp something for 70 hours straight
most of us who play p99 have families, jobs, etc...the list is an epic fail for 95% of the server...even if the stone was dropping every 3-4 hours, just being #10 means 30-40 hours of clicking a screen every 6-15 mins
what will happen if its not changed is the SAME people will keep getting the stone, over and over and over and over again, because 95% of the server just can't do 30+ hours non-stop...we can do 10-12 hours maybe but not 30+ hours

Not everyone needs or will get a manastone. It's classic. Farm plat and buy one like the majority. You don't deserve one. Put in the effort necessary to get one like the people who are getting them.

I'd say the current list system in place is a major success, allows everyone an equal chance to get the stone with no GM intervention. They have done enough work and a great job. I applaud them. No change required.

Without the list system it would just be monopolized by the same people and passed off between each other. Ergo, 95% of the server still wouldn't have a shot. At least with the list there's a slight possibility for someone not part of the relevant guild to get one as opposed to being zero possibility without the list.

The item is useful pre-Kunark, but is otherwise massively overrated. Please don't waste two full consecutive days of your life while jeopardizing your health to obtain this thing.

Everyone that signs up for the manastone list should be required to enter in their current address. That way GMs can phone in a welfare check to their local authorities when their characters cease to move or respond after 24 hours at the camp.
I will add that this should be for all legacy items as well, and a month long lockout.

I am legitimately curious if anyone has noticed any corpses rotting at any of the /list camps yet.
