View Full Version : Game Mechanics: Massively incorrect kick/bash rates

My logs 100% from charm pet+mob combat:

4119 kicks
9449 bashes

That's about a 30% kick rate, which seems incredibly lopsided and contrary to other evidence as to what it should be.

Where did the current kick/bash rates come from?

Contemporary classic log shows:

33 kicks
24 bashes

42% bash rate

Does anyone have any other classic logs? I'd like to get a sample size over 57 , heh. Alternatively, any idea why a charm/mob combat would show such a disproportionate favoring of bash?

a bigger question is - why is that mist panther never hitting for anything close to his max damage? he absolutely shreds on p99.

Doh. That panther is a freaking monk. Messes up everything.

Can only look at pet bash/kick, which is fairly close to ratio I got on green. That said it cuts a smallish sample size in half and only looks at pet attacks, which could be different than mob attacks.

Still curious if the are accurate though. Anyone know of any old/classic combat logs?

Mcoy has a whole ton, DMN.

Has he uploaded them someplace?

No I don't think so. They're his personal logs from years ago. You can PM him and he'll probably help you.

The devs have copies of what I've been able to locate.

DMN - what exactly are you looking for? kicks/bashes from pets or charmed pets? Most of my logs are from a cleric or wizard's perspective but I'll gladly give them a perusal to see if I've got anything helpful.

My interests are boundless. I would like to take your logs and purge them of any social interactions and host them somewhere for anyone's perusal.

So to give some recent examples

The kick/bash rate on the sever
The stun rate of bash
Various aspect of being stunned from regular attacks.

The truth is when I'm playing I commonly across things that don't seem quite right to me but have limited ability to confirm my suspicions. The latest and biggest one being this stun from behind mechanic. As someone who was the primary puller for the only raiding guild on the server in classic for close to a year and countless hours pulling on my SK, there is no way I would not recall the potentiality of a single mob stun locking me for 10+ seconds. Shouldn't be too hard to find some multiple stuns from the back in decent sized log file -- if they ever existed.

WoW got their idea to daze fleeing players from this, I'm sure they've removed that from retail by now given their "community".

I vivdly remember watching dark elves in Nektulos trying to flee from fire beetles, more adding then one catching them from the side and the rest stunlocking them pretty hard.

It's out of era - but this is one of the closest examples of being "stun locked" I found:

[Sat Jan 12 00:54:24 2002] You are stunned!
[Sat Jan 12 00:54:24 2002] A mountain giant hillock bashes YOU for 10 points of damage.
[Sat Jan 12 00:54:24 2002] You can't cast spells while stunned!
[Sat Jan 12 00:54:25 2002] You can't cast spells while stunned!
[Sat Jan 12 00:54:25 2002] A mountain giant hillock hits YOU for 56 points of damage.
[Sat Jan 12 00:54:26 2002] A mountain giant tump tries to hit YOU, but misses!
[Sat Jan 12 00:54:26 2002] You are unstunned.
[Sat Jan 12 00:54:26 2002] A mountain giant hillock tries to hit YOU, but misses!
[Sat Jan 12 00:54:27 2002] You tell your party, 'damnation'
[Sat Jan 12 00:54:27 2002] You are stunned!
[Sat Jan 12 00:54:27 2002] A mountain giant tump bashes YOU for 4 points of damage.

I had a few seconds in the next example:

[Thu Dec 20 22:39:30 2001] You are stunned!
[Thu Dec 20 22:39:30 2001] A mountain giant hillock bashes YOU for 2 points of damage.
[Thu Dec 20 22:39:32 2001] You are unstunned.
[Thu Dec 20 22:39:33 2001] A mountain giant craig tries to hit YOU, but misses!
[Thu Dec 20 22:39:33 2001] A mountain giant craig hits YOU for 62 points of damage.
[Thu Dec 20 22:39:33 2001] A mountain giant hillock tries to hit YOU, but misses!
[Thu Dec 20 22:39:33 2001] A mountain giant tump hits Xarsis for 58 points of damage.
[Thu Dec 20 22:39:35 2001] A mountain giant craig tries to hit YOU, but misses!
[Thu Dec 20 22:39:35 2001] A mountain giant craig hits YOU for 48 points of damage.
[Thu Dec 20 22:39:36 2001] Zephermen says out of character, 'to and of what?'
[Thu Dec 20 22:39:36 2001] A mountain giant hillock tries to hit YOU, but misses!
[Thu Dec 20 22:39:36 2001] You are stunned!
[Thu Dec 20 22:39:36 2001] A mountain giant hillock hits YOU for 56 points of damage.
[Thu Dec 20 22:39:38 2001] A mountain giant hillock kicks YOU for 2 points of damage.
[Thu Dec 20 22:39:39 2001] A mountain giant hillock tries to hit YOU, but misses!
[Thu Dec 20 22:39:39 2001] You are unstunned.

Some time after that:

[Thu Jul 25 20:02:13 2002] You are stunned!
[Thu Jul 25 20:02:13 2002] A ShikNar Hatchling bashes YOU for 10 points of damage.
[Thu Jul 25 20:02:15 2002] You are unstunned.
[Thu Jul 25 20:02:16 2002] A Lesser Spire Spirit coalesces from the ground!
[Thu Jul 25 20:02:16 2002] A ShikNar Hatchling slashes YOU for 10 points of damage.
[Thu Jul 25 20:02:16 2002] You are stunned!
[Thu Jul 25 20:02:16 2002] A ShikNar Hatchling bashes YOU for 6 points of damage.

Obviously these are somewhat flawed. Was I running away, or facing the mobs? We have no way of knowing.

While I'm not sure the size of your logs, so its hard to speak in ay kind of certainties of how significant it is, but it's interesting you can't find a single example of being stunned twice or more from hits to the back in close proximity.

Yeah, unfortunately I didn't really play melee in live and as a cleric I tended to just die in the group rather than try and run away. The other logs I have are well out-of-era so I'm discounting those.

Here are all the instances of "you are stunned" from that particular logfile:
