View Full Version : Game Mechanics: Charm Kiting

Is there any chance of Bard charm kiting being implemented on this server? I am talking about the mechanic where when a charmed mob attacks a group of mobs, they all turn and fight him. This currently does not happen and I have heard it is an issue of all the aggro transferring to the charmer. This was classic on live and I loved it.

If it is impossible, I understand. You guys are the best.

This was brought up earlier as an issue with a lot of charming, but it's not only that, it's broken for all pet classes. Here's the earlier post about it:

http://www.project1999.org/forums/showthread.php?t=33804

This was implemented as a way to stop players from doing content they shouldn't be able to so easily and should have been removed the instant Kunark was released.

You actually have a post from nilbog in that thread showing that what you said was wrong. I don't know why you still think it was an intentional nerf.

One of the main reasons I retired by Bard back in 09. I identify this kind of thing as a class breaking skill set Bards were accustom to having on live servers. It was the preferred method for experience kiting while solo and not being forced into AoE dot kiting. Having to dot kite after the dot nerf overall sucked as a Bard since they already do minimal dot damage. The problem is about social aggro transfer. If this was ever fixed, more people would enjoy playing the Bard class giving better alternatives for experience grinding.

Actually, the PBAE dots haven't been reduced yet on this server for some reason (I've bug reported it a few times already). But the charm kiting nerf is really something that should be addressed and is the reason Bards are the least classically accurate class on p99.

By my statistics and calculations charm kiting is working just fine and is on par with classic standards.

Yes, swarm kiting was my preferred method of soloing on live :/

This is a big part of why I won't be playing bard when server starts.

This doesn't seem like it would be that hard to fix. You can actually simulate swarm kiting by charming a mob that has low hp (the low hp aggro will be enough to attract the "swarm") so clearly there must be some way to code it so that the aggro on the bard is less than the aggro on the charmed pet.

If you remember on live, if you agroed a bunch of skeletons, or any mob, without doing a single point of damage, you actually had zero threat on it. It would follow you but if anyone got closer to it, it would automatically switch to them, easy skeleton trains in kurns comes to mind. That's why swarm kiting was possible, because on initial aggro of the swarm you had zero aggro on anything, if you charm a mob they automatically aggro it because it's the closest unfriendly target.

Currently there is a minimal amount of aggro you get just from being the first to anger a mob, even if you do 0 points of damage you can't train a mob on someone unless they have one already on them, or are low hp.

Whether they want to change it or not is another question, I personally don't care :)

???THIS is the actual ''swarm'' kite, not that lame aoe kite with broken range on songs.. you couldnt do that on live, needed extended notes AA mind you...

What? Of course you could do that on Live. The song ranges are the same. If anything it's harder here because mob hitboxes are longer.

Calabee I used to do both on our server regularly long before AAs.
