View Full Version : Quest Issue: Koalindl Fish in Qeynos Temple of Life

The Koalindl Fish in the Qeynos Temple of Life, upon death, spawns a MUCH higher level of itself that hits for around 300-400 damage. Nearly impossible to complete the Stein of Maggok quest in this manner.
Edit:
Attempted to damage the other fish with melee and it said the fish was INVULNERABLE just before it hit me for 475.
The fish in the middle is INVULNERABLE and will hit for 450
The fish around the outside can be killed if you can withstand a hit for 375.

The God Rodcet Nife has claimed a victim!

Funny or fixable?
Will it eventually despawn and this is just a GM joke or something?

There is a small chance of that very event happening upon killing a koalindl fish. You should see this emote:
"You fool! You bother Rodcet Nife as he swims with his creations...' "
then get owned. It depops within 30 seconds of no combat.
Working as intended.

Took more than 30 seconds to get back to my corpse. Was up for 25 minutes. Could be in at a 3 minute despawn timer but definitely not 30 seconds.

The level 50+ fish is intended.
To be fair though it should not spawn that often. On live I did the Stein quest maybe 10 times and never spawned Rodcet Knife's fish form.
The killer fish is meant to be a rare event, it's the faction hits that used to be very severe. Like kill the fish 3-4 times and your KOS without some form of Alliance spell.

I did the Stein quest oh maybe 60+ times on Live - and NEVER EVER had a "killer" fish appear to kill me. And I did the quest multiple times a day (usually a full run was like 2 hours, and I would chain them back to back - selling my stein while running to get another).
This can't be classic. Unless I got really really lucky!
People honestly kill the fish with their enchanter? How hard is it to make a lvl 1 rodnet nife worshipping human warrior to kill the fish and log to the enc? /boggle

I never said I used my main ;)
Also, Human SK is better and closer. You can use HT to make the fish dead quicker.

Looked into this on test. I have NO idea why it happens so often lol. It's set low.. and seems to happen like.. 40% of the time.
Thanks for the report. It should be functioning around 5% of the time.

not everyone does...
I had never had this event happen on live either. I ran the stein quest probably 10 times on live.
This experience may be "working as intended" but is slightly flawed imo.

Are you saying this shouldn't happen? If so, please tell me why. Should it happen less than 5% or what do you think is slightly flawed with it?
I don't recommend killing this sucker, and if you must, be weary. Every once in awhile, Rodcet Nife himself posses this fish.. yes, splat. He hit me for 444 once, soooo... be sure to /con it first, or start digging your grave.
(BTW, if he starts yelling 'You fool! You bother odcet Nife as he swims with his creations...' then promtly kills the attacker, it's Rodcet, he'll disappear soon, be patient)The god, Rodcet Nife sometimes makes an appearance as himself at the Temple of Life in Qeynos.
He is a bane to people hunting the Koalindl fish for the Stein of Mogguk Quest.
Be warned, killing them has a large faction hit, the knight in the water doesn't like people killing the fish and there is reportedly a rare God spawn in the form of a fish to protect his sacred koalindl. Koalindl (Rodcet Nife) The bad boy popped and owned me :) Oh well, lots of fun :) Fortunately he depoped by the time I got rezed :)
'“The fish called Koalindl were a gift to High Priestess Jahnda from the Prime Healer. They come from the Plane of Health. To kill one Koalindl is to bring the wrath of Rodcet Nife and the PriestsofLifeuponyou. The PoolofJahndaisnotmeantforpublic use. It is a sacred pool created for the Koalindl. They say every so often the Prime Healer visits our plane in the guise of a Koalindl. He swims within our pool. - Enic Ruklin of Qeynos, Guardian of the Pool of Jahnda'

I think 5% chance is okay. All we know for sure that it was extremely rare on live. Hell it could even have been removed or broken at some point and we wouldn't even have known it. Whatever you feel is a good representation of an extremely rare event should be fine.
(Also I don't think Kuld read the post where you said you fixed it to 5%.)

I never saw it on live either, but I've seen enough posts about it to be certain it's a possibility.
I say definitely leave it in- adds a little spice an otherwise kind of boring quest (lots and lots and lots of running :p )

I did this quest probably 75+ times on live and never saw this happen (or even heard of it happen actually). So I think it was probably closer to 1% in classic.
That said, 5% is a lot better than where it is currently. Whatever you think is best - and as always, thanks for taking a look.

When I first started late 1999, my brother told me the portal at the temple place was the way to Plane of Hate. He also said I should attack the fish.
Loading....
This was definitely on Live Classic. .. I also want to say, therefore i will... that it would happen more often then not, if you killed a regular fish... shrug... the big bad one would spawn and .. do his thing.
back to work now all of you

Thank you for looking into this. The problem for me wasn't that it spawned and destroyed me, it was that the God Fish was alive for so long. It had to have been up at least 20-25 minutes before despawning.
You guys do great work.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but just for those who've never seen it, here's a screen shot I grabbed in 2003 :-)
I think 1% on live is more accurate, I lost count of the number of stein runs I made over the years.

I used to do the quest as an early form of funds. Create a fish killer warrior. I always leveled to two because sometimes at level 1 the battle went on too long... Corporal always seemed to be around the corner.

Just to add another 2cp worth (and at the risk of upsetting the Stein farmers), either I'm very lucky, or the drop rate of the fish is wrong. On live I only got the fish drop after killing 1 in maybe 5 - here at P1999 I'm getting one every time.
