View Full Version : Quest Issue: Tunare Warden-Warden Symbol of Tunare

Hello,
Currently this quest cannot be finished so this item is unobtainable. The quest has been like this since the first day I started playing in Dec so I assume its been busted since launch. The initial issue was that none of the lesserfaydark night spawns were popping correctly ( Rancorous Ghasts, Larik Z'Vole etc) and thus no one could get the first necklace. The ghasts were given two static spawn points to help with the bugged night only spawns but it does not allow others to further the quest past that step since Larik was never added.
Also I do not believe the pouch of red dust from sol a nor the caustic substances from werebats are dropping either. Basically this quest needs to be looked at as to how to implement it to the emulator as it is a very classic quest and produces a necklace that is extremely useful for clerics and druids who worship tunare. In some respects it is one of the only perks before Growth plane for making a Tunare worshiping healer.

Tunare initiate is currently able to be completed since the ghasts do pop at two static spots, so maybe Larik could just become a static non-depending on night/day pop where he should be.

I've been camping this guy for nearly 8 hours. Does he not actually spawn? Everything I've read on the various quest sites say that he is a fairly rare spawn with some people camping for days before finding him. Are we sure that he does not spawn at all on the P99 server?

yep Larik the necro does not exist currently, only the ghasts do.
The quest needs a good ol overhaul.

Same here. This was the first "major" quest (i.e. different parts, lots of travel, etc.) that I ever did in EQ.
I'm really looking forward to it being on this server. Is there anything we can do to help? Gather info, etc.?

The only way we get this quest fixed is if more of the community constantly bumps this, so tell your Tunare friends.....head to the forums and let your voices be heard haha

I camped the ghast hearts over the past couple nights and managed to get 4 from the static spawn, but clearing the obelisk to spawn the necromancer doesn't seem to be working at all.
I'd definitely like to finish this chain, it's one of the reasons I chose elf for my druid.

I've been checking at random times, and have spent several more hours trying to camp this guy. I could not find anyone who has seen him spawn, nor could I find anyone who has been able to complete the Disciple part of the quest. The ghast spawns seem a bit sporadic but from what I have read on various live discussion boards about the quest, this is actually a normal thing.
I would like to see this quest fixed. As a cleric approaching 30, I was looking to this quest to provide some much needed wis as I currently have nothing beyond a set of banded armor for stats.

Yep its a bummer so far, but this is how its gonna be looked at. Tell your wisdom friends, have them tell their elders, if you want a necklace that will be used for most your leveling come here to post a reply.

another patch passes us by and the quest remains broken, so just bumping. Every Tunare druid and cleric on the server would complete this quest if they could, so hopefully one day they'll be able to do it.

It took me a while, but I got my hearts and finished the first necklace. I've also picked up a couple of the items for the third quest along the way. It would be truly awesome to have a fix for this. I'll try to research what's supposed to happen and post the details here. If anyone else wants to help with the research, please do.

Druid of Tunare Here, Ive camped the Rancorous Ghasts for hours, Not sure exactly where the "static" spawn is at, but ive been killing the obelisk and then there are 2 other skeletons i can track from there, so ive been getting them, like north and west from the obelisk.
Any Verification by the Devs that the quest does indeed work as intended would be appreciated.

I have no concrete evidence, but there is no way this quest was classic...my first char in 99 was a wood elf druid and I remember doing this quest quite a bit later. First post in alla's regarding this necklace is April 2001....am I misremembering....or perhaps I just didn't know about it until later?

Ok maybe a free root is not that bad but the root is still worse than our normal root. Do i miss anything ?

Yes. Clicky root - so effectively a 9th spell slot, with Root always available.
OOM while kiting that red mob? Root it and sit and repeat until you have enough mana to finish him. Or Root him and med up to Gate. Or Root and run.
All the while having 8 slots available for your other spells.

This should be a high priority to fix. Warden Symbol quest was one of the few quests in the early game that had a good balance of risk v. reward.

Except they're not. I was a wood elf in classic on live, and pre-Kunark there were no ghasts in there. We hunted in there all the time (this was before Kunark tainted brownies were added). Illia's in fact has the quote below from 2001(!)...

I was hunting in lFay waiting for it to be day time so I could go camo into the castle in MM when I saw a new mob on track. it was called a rancorous ghast, or something like that. it was green to me at 47, and I killed it in like 5 shots or something, and it dropped an item, a Putrescent Heart. Magic Item. No drop. anyone know what this is for?
I'm aware the skeleton quests were in there at classic, but the final quest that rewarded the necklace was a later addition. Again no concrete evidence (i.e. patch notes etc), but I do remember how excited I was when they added the continuation of the quest chain, and going back on my higher level druid at the time to get it after it was added.
(edit: to clarify, I don't care one way or another if it stays in on this server...but I know this was not in at release. )

Heres the thing, whether it was there at the original release or there in kunark is pretty irevelant at this point since the quests ARE in our emulator now and you can obtain one of the necklaces. So they either should remove the quests as they currently are and implement them in their entirety at some point or just fix what they have started since nothing that is rewarded is over powering. The time line issue isnt that big of deal since we are basically talking about a couple months dif.
Could a dev comment on this particular quest so we dont discuss blindly?

I would so love to see this in p99. This was one of my favorite items in classic eq for my druid, even at higher levels it can be a life saver. I collected a bunch of clicky items as a druid, and this was by far one of my most used (second maybe to my elder spiritist vambraces). These babies held a last line of defence in a lot of situations. Coupled with the elder spiritist vambraces and the epic, they were a pretty nasty combo. A mana free root and two mana free dots. They made it possible to root/rot a LOT easier, I remember many-a-hour farming elysians in umbral plains with these.
That, as aside from my epic quest, it's one of the quests I actually remember doing and working at, and it was definately a nice item to show off. I would love to see this item implimented on our shard in the future.

I think folks are kinda missing the point on these Symbol quests being around. The first one released was the Dark Elf Necklace: Right click clinging darkness (rawr!). It was released around the same time as Paineel came out if memory serves correct (I did research, but that was over a year ago...). Anywho, since it was in that early, and we went live with Paineel open I stuck them in. Now, The big thing was that they came out in stages (And some were never completed, Brell!), couple here, couple there, blah blah blah. I stuck all of them in at the same time.
So, overall, some are classic, some aren't classic. They became classic by proxy due to the concept beating Paineel's release. That and picking and choosing what got included when these quests weren't part of patch notes was a HUGE pain.
I'll re-read this thread on my off, see what I can do to get them rolling like their supposed too.

Well if it wasn't classic, then it wasn't classic. What about the other initiate/disciple/warden quests for other deities? Are THEY classic? And if not, are they in-game currently?

Well I'll be. It does appear that this *might* indeed have come in around Velious or even shortly thereafter (but it was pre-Luclin).

This doesn't prove anything - just that it was definitely in-game PRE-Luclin (but *possibly* not until after the Velious release). More likely I would guess the quest was there for a good 3-9 months before it was "discovered" and entered into Allakhazam.
Anyway, it's very unlikely that it was there during the original-trilogy. :/

Initially, there was the Tunare neck and the Innoruuk neck. I forget the first level of the DE one, but the Tunare one was like a short duration resist/regen thing. This was around the time that Sky was released. They added the 2nd level of those and added the first level of I think Tribunal and a couple more. Then they added the 3rd level of the Tunare and Inno one, the 2nd level of the others and the first level of a few more, this was around the time Paineel popped out. The last series came out about partway through Kunark but never finished the Brell line, and never even started several others. Brell was only completed during a GM event several years later on that premium server, and there was only one given out.
The very first necks roughly coincided with SolRo. I can't say they are "all" in the game, but I can say all the ones I knew about are in.

And we are back to our current problem that the original post I made was about Aeolwind. The correct stage of this quest may be implemented in our game, but the MOB that allows us to complete the quest currently is borked. So while the availability of the resist neck ( buff is called Aloe something) which is the second neck might be working, no one is ever able to advance their neck to this stage since the necromancer does not spawn in lesserfaydark since the day/night issues have not been fixed, and no temp fix has been implemented to ignore day/night in lesserfaydark.
Thank you for responding and looking into this though, I appreciate every Tunarian druid in the community keeping this post active as I felt I was the only one doing it for the first couple times I posted it lol

Bump. Any word on this? Anything we can do to further outline/simplify things? It seems like a relatively simple fix save for the script that spawns the courier, runs him, and despawns him. Even that should be rather short I'd hope!
+ Please make Larik Z`Vole (http://eqbeastiary.allakhazam.com/search.html?id=6524) rarely spawn at (588, 919) in Lesser Faydark only at night.
+ He must drop his head, but not every time.
+ Every time he dies a dark elf courier (http://eqbeastiary.allakhazam.com/search.shtml?id=6525) spawns somewhere neat the GFay zone and RUNS to the DE camp, apparently despawning shortly after he arrives.
+ The courier drops a crate and his head every(?) time.
+ Larik's head, Courier's head, Courier's crate, and the Initiate Symbol of Tunare turn in for the Disciple Symbol of Tunare
(I suspect the Disciple quest is implemented, just the two above NPCs do not spawn.)

I can tell you that the undead in Lfay currently do not respawn as ghasts, except for ONE. The Mummy beside the skeleton at the ruins will respawn as a ghast at night time. Whether it drops a heart or not, I can't say. I've only killed it twice.

The trick to the ghasts is that they can also spawn as one of the other several, random undead spawns across the zone. Also they do drop hearts. I have the first necklace and another 4 to get a second #2 for the PR/DR buff.

I'm aware, I killed so many that I can zip from skeleton to skeleton without the use of track. Of the ~300 undead I killed in the zone at nighttime, I never once saw a roaming skeleton repop as a ghast. Only the one at the pillar in the position mentioned. I'd believe it if my luck sucked that badly, but it's entirely possible this may be different from when you did yours for whatever the reason may be.

Nope not working. The necro is not spawning. Thought he might be rare and sat there for 12 RL hours straight killing the undead at the obilisk. Got all my 4 hearts there but not a single necro spawning

Can anyone confirm whether or not the quest text (given by responding with "I will slay the necromancer") should be in game if necromancer NPC is not implemented?
Is this a classic bug or a P1999 bug?

This is a P1999 bug. Since its an emulator, not everything is going to be 100% the way Sony had it working. Thats why the Ghasts are at a static spawn point now, the ghoul boss spawns in a slightly diff location. Not sure why the necromancer wont spawn? It seems there is only a Skeleton that continuously spawns in its "classic" spawn point.

This quest should not be implemented according to the timeline. The necro should not spawn, and we should not be getting the quest text prompting us to kill him.
The quest text is a P1999 bug. It isn't classic (where we are).
Now I'm going to sleep for like 45 hours straight, goodnight.

Yep camped it for a bit, then checked here to see if its not working. I learned an important lesson with this one.
I'm still having such a blast anyway. Just hope this gets in the game!

I guess they added the final quest before adding the initial quest!
IE, that number doesn't mean much. However, to my knowledge, there were no - to few deity only items in classic, so I wouldn't be surprised if this was added in the expansion packs.

I'd like to add one thing if I could. I've played nothing but a druid since playing EQ. While I agree with the high end druid, one of the things that frustrates me to no end is the lack of viability for me to do quests. I look at rangers, paladins, clerics, warriors and such, and see tons of class-specific quests for them starting in the lower levels, all for decent items. I look at the druid and most of the druid-only quests have either had the items nerfed or wiped out of the game. As such, I rarely quest until my mid-40s. The only quests I have actually attempted to do beforehand is the Testament of Vanear quest and the Tunare initiate-warden quests. And as everyone knows, those are not druid-only. Even with the addition of Kunark, no quests were really given especially for druids other than undesirable equipment (like Charm Plant and the handy shilelagh?). I wish there were better quests for druids before the epic or Velious/Luclin armors.
He implies that the Testament and the Tunare Initiate-Warden quests were the only worthwhile Druid quests, and that "Even with the addition of Kunark, no quests were really given especially for druids other than undesirable equipment".
As I said, considering it is a 2002 post, it can't be confirmed as classic. But this guy seems to believe that it was.

If the Innoruuk clicky for clinging darkness is in and works, I'm thinking this Tunare item should be too. Why favor evil over good? Which is how this is sounding to me. Considering Kunark should have already been out if you follow timelines...this quest should be live now.

It's not an issue of favoring anyone over another. None of them should be in yet, the ones that were already in were in for too long to take them out. This will go in when it's time.

why are my cleric armor quest rewards so awful? Especially for a weakling high elf!
The slots I need upgrades on are legs, arms, and boots... so it appears that
for each of those I'd pay +100pp + time/trouble to get;
heavy plate-weight/AC gear that has a bit of poison/disease, +int and +dex??

What does a cleric need with those stats (int in particular)?
Seems like I might as well just keep using my Burynai hide sleeves, silversilk leggings and cloth sandals so I can sooner afford some mana/wis gear?!?
Granted I look funny wearing bad gear, but in the end eventually I can just hit Karnors for jarsath scale or something after I level up some right?
P.S.
I know Warrior and Shaman quest armors have some bad pieces too... :(

I have on and off checked/camped the ghasts. Never seen one. Not after sim repop, not after patch repop. Not after kills, etc. Everytime I run by I kill the undead, every time I am in LFAY I check, and on three occasions I have sat and camped em.
Seems like with that last link that was posted this should be in game at this point.

Didn't have a problem eventually finding some ghasts! Although on live they spawned at any PH spot at the obelisk. <Bump!>

I have had 4 ghast hearts sitting in my bank to make a fresh haste neck after I get the Warden Symbol since.....
2010.
They aint gonna fix this :(

I've been at the obelisk for a couple hours now and no ghasts whatsoever. Is it still a static spawn location?
Also a bump for the necromancer spawn as Velious is only a few months out. The second necklace should be in by now.

Yes the ghast still spawns there. Think it's the left static spawn. Only will spawn at night I think.

Every single time it's a mummy and a skeleton with another skeleton a few feet away by a tree. Ghoul boss currently on the hill. Is it really just that rare of a spawn? Guess it isn't worth it anyway.

Many of the priest deity neck quests are broken. I really hope they are able to address them all at some point. I suspect whomever did them initially hasn't revisited them in some time.
Would love to see this one and cazic disciple fixed.. so close yet so far..

After looking at the posts for this on Alla because I too want a clicky root and remember having one on live, it seems people only began seeing quest items show up in early April 2001. I don't think the first one should really be in game now, honestly. It should be put in a while after root and snare start stacking, I believe.

Patch on March 14, 2001 mentions lots of new quests, nothing specific - might've been added in this particular batch. (pertinent info bolded)
***Patch Day***
Along with the big announcements above, today was a patch day as well:
- Fixed a bug that allowed exploitation of the period of time between
character control being established and loading of character faction
tables.
- Fixed the Dagger of Frost. Its special item flags were improperly
removed in the last patch.
- The spell, Mark of Karn, has been enhanced to heal more per hit.
- The effect on the Celestial Elixir Breastplates has been changed to
the enhanced Mark of Karn. The casting time on these items has also
been changed to 9 seconds.
- NPCs in Thurgadin will no longer stop traveling when you /hail them.
- Fixed a problem present in Nagafen's Lair and the Plane of Hate that
caused framerate to drop over time.
- Shift-clicking on a stack of items will cause you to pick up the
whole stack. This is in addition to CTRL-clicking on a stack, which
will cause you to pick up one. These both also work for coins now as
well as items.
- In addition to the above, holding down the shift key while clicking
the "Sell" button in the vendor screen will cause you to sell the
entire stack of items if a stack is selected. For example, you can sell
20 peridots by selecting the stack, and shift-clicking "Sell". I'd
recommend though that you give them to your neighborhood cleric first
though :) The ability to buy stacks is on the list for implementation
in the near future.
- There are a ton of new recipies for trade skill users out there.
Check your books.
- There are a bunch of new quests as well.
- It appears that we fixed a bug with the Mend skill that caused it to
be unavailable for a few seconds after it was supposed to be ready for
use. Let us know if there are any further problems.
- Foraging items will now yield a message giving you some idea of what you've foraged.
New quests were also added March 27th but nothing else until after April. It's likely March 27th when these particular quests were added, I seem to remember reading the line about talking to the folks of Norrath for new stuff...

I do not believe Larik/the courier have been added. Hung out at obelisk for a few hours and it seemed all the mobs were on the same timer (Larik is supposed to be a ph on 15 min timer whereas the others are 5?). Will update if I see them.

This is generally considered to be the patch note that added the last two quests of this chain.
Information starts pouring in come April when people discover them, but those patch notes are the closest to suggest their implementation. The April patch notes make no note of new quests.

Hmm, it worked fine in my tests. He runs.. fast. Unless you're in his path, or intercept before he reaches destination, I doubt you could catch him.
That being said, if he was indeed spawned beneath the world, I can add some more functions to script to prevent.
It would help to know if anyone else experiences the same trouble.

I first bugged this quest on 2/17/2010 with day/night issues a problem in lesserfay
then created this bug post after those issues were fixed but the necromancer was not added
Well after the most recent patch, thanks to nilbog's hard work ( and many hours of camping )

thanks to nilbog (and eratani for the heart MQ) for finally getting this done.
nilbog, do you think you could look at the Disciple of Cazic quest sometime? it's been ingame for years, but the final turnin rewards a piece of ringmail armor rather than the neck.
