View Full Version : Spells: Blanket of Forgetfulness weirdness?

Tecmos Deception
02-07-2013, 10:17 AM
Edit - summary of thread: blanket of forgetfulness sometimes apparently blurs multiple mobs (that are rooted near each other) successfully (as verified with hide + indifferent con), but then the mobs come running after me when roots wear off anyways even if I am far enough away that it was not re-aggro that was the issue.

I zoned into HS with IVU, aggrod 2 feasters, stunned them right in the middle of the entry area, mezzed them right there, then went up onto the safe point in the steps on south stairs, remezzed until Blanket of Forgetfulness was ready, hit them with BoF, hid successfully, conned them both... they're indifferent.

Then I invised past the pyre golems, opened the door into south, ran into the back right corner and started casting IVU. Suddenly the two golems are on me. They had assisted onto me because the feasters were coming at me, even though they were both indifferent when I was hidden and I was not close enough to have reaggrod them and I didn't cast anything on them after they were successfully blurred.

What's goin on here?

Shit. I was just about to try to reproduce this when a few people came in and started killing the feasters :(

maybe the spell hit a mob below the zone in and didn't blur that mob successfully and he trained you?

As far as I know blur cannot aggro something in and of itself.

I had aggrod a few mobs that were resisting a lot of lulls, figuring they were higher-level and wanting to clear them out so they'd eventually repop as lower. Only one of the 3 turned out to be level 52 though, so I let my pet die then, as you can see in the log immediately below, I mezzed the 50 and the 51, hid, and saw that the sepulcher had blurred but the helot had not:

[Thu May 23 07:41:34 2013] You begin casting Mesmerization.
[Thu May 23 07:41:37 2013] A helot skeleton has been mesmerized.
[Thu May 23 07:41:37 2013] A sepulcher skeleton has been mesmerized.
[Thu May 23 07:41:41 2013] You begin to hide...
[Thu May 23 07:41:42 2013] a sepulcher skeleton regards you indifferently -- it appears to be quite formidable.
[Thu May 23 07:41:43 2013] a helot skeleton glares at you threateningly -- it appears to be quite formidable.

So I memmed my AE blur incase the couple AE mezzes I would cast while it was coming off cooldown didn't manage to blur both of the skeletons:

[Thu May 23 07:41:47 2013] Beginning to memorize Blanket of Forgetfulness...
[Thu May 23 07:41:48 2013] You have finished memorizing Blanket of Forgetfulness.

Hide failed twice while BoF was coming off cooldown though, so I didn't know if the two were still aggrod or not. So I hit them both with BoF. Then I hid and it was successful and both mobs were blurred, as you can see immediately below. I was not standing close enough to the two mobs that I could have reaggrod them when I went to move further back and my hide dropped.

[Thu May 23 07:42:07 2013] You begin casting Blanket of Forgetfulness.
[Thu May 23 07:42:12 2013] A helot skeleton blinks a few times.
[Thu May 23 07:42:12 2013] A sepulcher skeleton blinks a few times.
[Thu May 23 07:42:17 2013] You begin to hide...
[Thu May 23 07:42:17 2013] a helot skeleton regards you indifferently -- it appears to be quite formidable.
[Thu May 23 07:42:19 2013] a sepulcher skeleton regards you indifferently -- it appears to be quite formidable.
[Thu May 23 07:42:21 2013] You have moved and are no longer hidden!!

I was sitting out of aggro range, out of line of sight, medding and telling Save about how awesome I was so that I didn't need any rezzes from his paladin who is parked over near HS. Then, a minute later when the fetters I had on both mobs wore off, both mobs came at me (bro). The Color Shift i start on the third line of the log below is because the helot rounded the corner and started casting on me. Then the fetter on the sepulcher wears off too and he joins the party and they both smack me a few time before I stun, root, and run off to clear aggro by camping out:

[Thu May 23 07:43:30 2013] Your Fetter spell has worn off.

Last patch they made it so that invisibility would not clear aggro upon a successful FD. Perhaps it has something to do with this? Both are mem-blur mechanics.

I was doing queen bee in sky one night recently, raid wipes / camps out as final bee spawns. I'm sitting far away invis when someone kites it over me, it ae's and I instantly re-invis with CoS, con it and I appear to have no aggro (Indifferent). I drop invis after queen bee resets and she makes a beeline (lol) to me and gives me the touch of death. She did not go anywhere near me until I dropped my invis.

I am not trying to hijack the thread, but simply pointing out other instances in which /con did not actually prove there was no aggro.

Yeah, I noticed that kinda thing with my SK recently too. FD, stand up and instant CoS, con the mob = indifferent. It doesn't come at me. Then when invis drops any amount of time later, it comes chasing at me.

However, was my original post before the last patch?

I honestly just looked at the last post in which you provided logs. Your initial post was before the patch, which went live on February 18, 2013.

As far as I know blur cannot aggro something in and of itself.

I generally felt this way, yet once, back in Kunark era, on live, some people were agroing guards in North Freeport. On Mith Marr this was the auction zone. I cast BoF to stop the fighting and then received agro from the guards. (I had done no prior activities to gain agro)
Not sure how I got the agro? Maybe it was from BoF landing on the player who had the guard's agro? Never did try to reproduce it though.

Is it the spell wearing off that is causing the aggro? Or is it strictly invis that is the barrier between aggro?

The behavior doesn't replicate itself when already non-kos. Or maybe it does by 'regifting' the original amount of hate?
