Questions from a Newb
Hey guys, My friends and I are old EQ veterans and have been anxiously awaiting a classic EQ emulator with a trustworthy staff. Sadly I hadn't heard about Project 1999 until just recently and so I am certainly interested.
But I wonder if I hit the boat too late. Is there anyone still leveling up with such a small player base? or will I just have to grind up to max level or find a guild to help power lvl me. Also, with just 300 or so players on at peak is it difficult to find groups outside of one's guild on a casual basis? Thanks for any and all input you guys give me. |
Closer to 400 players at peak now, so the trend is up. Lots of players at all levels still, and a lot of the grinders who are now stuck against the ceiling (50) are starting alts.
Kunark is not out until October, so there's a lot to look forward to. So c'mon in - the water's fine! |
Plenty of people of all levels playing. Just tonight there was over 20 people in Crushbone alone. Give it a try, you will love it. I have found it no more difficult to find a group here then I did on live way back when.

Thats pretty encouraging guys, I'd love to really dig into some classic EQ.
Any hints or tips on what classes are needed? Tanks and Healers I assume :) Also, I cant seem to find it anywhere but what exactly has been made classic? Were they able to revert some of the dreadful changes to places like Freeport? |
Everything, including Freeport (I agree, the "revamped" Freeport was HORRIBLE), will be as it was in classic for the most part. You will, however, need to download a few small files to make sure things work properly. The homepage will direct you to those files. I think the number 1 question asked in-game is "why does my spell say that I need to be level 255 to scribe it?" The download fix stuff like that.

As someone who just began playing on the server this week I can certainly say that there is not a shortage of players in the beginning zones. As long as you have a good personality and don't mind making a few friends you'll be just fine. :)
|
Thats very exciting news! If we're lucky maybe I can talk 3 or 4 of my friends to join in with me. Hope to see you all out there!
Now what to play??? Hrmm! :D (As a side question, Have there been many problems with exploiting or plat bugging? Just curious as I've heard these are problems in other Emulators?) |
Hybrids, except for Shadowknights (bards/palidans[although they are growing in number] and rangers) are the least played class at the moment.
Enchanters and mages are everywhere. necro's are popping up pretty good, and druids have always been flooded on the server, although there arent too many 50 main druids, lots of alts in their 30's and around 40 that people use to PL their friends or their friends use to PL them.\ Aside from that.... Healers and tanks are always needed. War's tank the best w/ 2 yaks. SK's hold aggro the best... Bards are probably the lowest played class, but are also bugged. Yet i know a few 50 bards who are badass. So they arent too bugged. Play what you want, you'll find your niche. |
It's hard to say what classes aren't played much. It will change depending on who you talk to and through the levels. Are you concerned with raiding or casual play? Do you want to be in the action or on the side-lines medding? Your independent goals will shape what class is best suited for you.
I have noticed a very small amount of Bards. I chose a Wiz after talking with a few people from what seem to be the raiding guilds on the server and asking for feedback. Wiz was one class that almost everyone I talked to said was in short supply (probably because they are rougher to level at low levels than other classes I've played, just because we're extra-squishy). I also rolled a Bard so that when I get irritated with the Wiz I can switch over to something different for a bit, but I think I'll stick with the Wiz. It's also hard because there may be classes, like Druids, that are played only to the mid-level range. If you haven't played in a while then I suggest rolling a few classes and seeing which one really grabs your attention. It really comes down to what you enjoy because if you end up playing a class you don't really enjoy, you won't be motivated to play. And also remember that the first 10 levels or so will be filled with death....and accomplishment. ;) |
Rangers! We need rangers! and more gnomes please. I barely get to punt one a day :(
