Default Questions from a Newb

Hey guys, My friends and I are old EQ veterans and have been anxiously awaiting a classic EQ emulator with a trustworthy staff. Sadly I hadn't heard about Project 1999 until just recently and so I am certainly interested.

But I wonder if I hit the boat too late. Is there anyone still leveling up with such a small player base? or will I just have to grind up to max level or find a guild to help power lvl me.

Also, with just 300 or so players on at peak is it difficult to find groups outside of one's guild on a casual basis?

Thanks for any and all input you guys give me.

Closer to 400 players at peak now, so the trend is up. Lots of players at all levels still, and a lot of the grinders who are now stuck against the ceiling (50) are starting alts.

Kunark is not out until October, so there's a lot to look forward to.

So c'mon in - the water's fine!

Plenty of people of all levels playing. Just tonight there was over 20 people in Crushbone alone. Give it a try, you will love it. I have found it no more difficult to find a group here then I did on live way back when.

Thats pretty encouraging guys, I'd love to really dig into some classic EQ.

Any hints or tips on what classes are needed? Tanks and Healers I assume [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Also, I cant seem to find it anywhere but what exactly has been made classic? Were they able to revert some of the dreadful changes to places like Freeport?

Everything, including Freeport (I agree, the "revamped" Freeport was HORRIBLE), will be as it was in classic for the most part. You will, however, need to download a few small files to make sure things work properly. The homepage will direct you to those files. I think the number 1 question asked in-game is "why does my spell say that I need to be level 255 to scribe it?" The download fix stuff like that.

As someone who just began playing on the server this week I can certainly say that there is not a shortage of players in the beginning zones. As long as you have a good personality and don't mind making a few friends you'll be just fine. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Well, I might have gained two friends to join in with me, one a healer and the other CC, leaving me as the tank.

So for you that have been playing lately... Whats the ideal tank?

I know Warriors = Endgame raid tanks which would be nice if we were to get that far.

But how do ShadowKnights and Paladins fare up as tanks? Are they viable in a dungeon group or are you always just gonna be better off with a warrior?

If they are viable, Which do you think is better?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

First of all welcome to the server! I see you asking a lot of questions about what we need and stuff like that. Play what you want to. I play a ranger because I have always played a ranger and I love it. Believe me play what you want you will always get grps and always be useful in one way or another.

What are you used to playing?

Thanks for the welcome! Glad to see people seem to still have that old EQ sense of community. Well in terms of Everquest I spent the majority of my time as a Shaman. Though in MMO's I've played a good mix of tank and support classes. So really anything goes.

I'm leanin more towards tank so Im at the Warrior, Pally, SK crossroads
