the #1 thing is have patience. Starting p1999 without having played classic? Yikes. You are going to be in for a rude awakening with how clunky the game is compared to modern titles.
BUT! It is some of the most fun you can have if you can make yourself get into it. Level 1-10 can be a brutal grind and not much fun - it gets easier/better after and the classes really grow in power as you level.
Just don't give up after 1 or 2 play sessions
