Default Patching?

Just a quick question from a newbi how do I patch is it automatic or do I have to download a patch from some place.

Patching isn't necessary; the GM's will tell you when updating local EQ files is necessary, but nearly all updates they post are server-side (at least it would seem that way), which are unaffected by what you have on your computer.
