Default Ghoulbane or Sword of the morning

I was wondering what sword I should go with. Ghoulbane is great for undead but sword of the morning is better for anything undead. I heard ghoulbane is around 600p and sword of the morning is around 300p. So im leaning more towards the SoM because its cheaper, better bps and im not forced to be stuck in unrest most of my paldin life. What do you guys think? Also, what does the sword of morning look like? Couldnt find any pictures. Thanks.

They both look fairly plain. Sword of Morning is a Kunark weapon, so its going to be better than Ghoulbane. However! Ghoulbane is classic, and your DPS is going to suck with either of them so i would go Ghoulbane because classic

Max your dex, and ghoulbane begins to proc at level 20....you will FAR outdamage any other weapon for a long time against undead.

both .. ghoulbane is nice for undead but raw dps is raw dps ...

If you are trying to hold aggro with dps from a monk or rogue at any level you are doing it wrong, stuns and flash ftw

Sword of the Morning will last you much longer (becomes a very good tanking weapon at 50 w/ stun procs), but Ghoulbane is very fun and effective for levels 20-30. I believe people that have parsed it have said Baton of Faith is still better overall at that level, but getting those procs (or not getting them) at level 20 is a power-blasting emotional rollercoaster of panic and glory that every young paladin should get to experience if it's in their budget. That said, it's not very useful past 30ish unless you're going to solo the hag tower - soloing undead casters is the one niche role it does well at until 40ish, since you'll need your shield out and SoM isn't that much extra pure dps.

As a side note, you'll have to buy or camp ghoulbane at some point if you plan on completing your epic quest, so if you can afford it then you may as well grab one.

Ghoulbane isn't very good except against undead, and even then a good 2h will probably outparse it on average

Ghoulbane is very hit or miss, I saved and got mine at lvl 20, then headed to unrest. I found the damage very poor, and the procs were so random. I had 120 dex, sometimes would get three procs against a ghoul, sometimes no procs for several minutes.

I switched to baton of faith and did so much more damage it was silly. Though considering damage isnt the real point, I eventually just stuck with shield plus sword of morning and stashed my GB around lvl 25 because of the weight.

I wasnt really impressed, but the problem is the better kunark weapons avaliable.

You need it for epic anyway, so snag it if you can afford it. I saw lvl 30 paladins there still using it. When it does proc 3x against a hag its really amazing, but then nothing forever

Thanks everyone for the input. But im looking for a good cheap 1 hnder to last me for a while as well as a 2hnd sword. Was going to go with one of those 2 swords and the arbitors combine great sword at some point for the 2hnder. Actually, I would love to get soulfire and fight with it but i hear its camped all the time to get the free CH, so that sucks. The baton of faith is a good 2hnder but im looking to stick with a more traditionl knight look of sword and shield and 2hnd sword. Also, i didnt want to spend my whole lvling life in unrest becuase iv done that mass majority of my eq life when i was on live so would like to see the rest of the world to. I love ghoulbane and if i had the cash i would do both but is ghoulbane worth the money outside of the undead. Is there better 1hnd slashing weapons for the same price range?

I would use a Sword of Skyfire for levels 1-19, it only costs around 100p.

After that sell it and get SoTM and Baton of Faith. Both are cheap. Use the Baton of Faith when soloing. Use the SoTM with a shield when tanking in groups, this setup easily last you well into your late 50s.

On the cheap end?

Green jade broadsword 11/25 +10poison/disease +8str+8sta helps to carry loot, or sword of skyfire for 10/22 25 hp +15sv cold +cha, for 1hs weapons, both easy to get under 100-70p

2hs nathsar greatsword,17/30 +10str helps with loot, 100p

I would still grab a baton of faith if you can afford it, its nice dps option
