Default Simulated Patch day spawns...

So, the raiding scene has improved a great deal with the new rules/release of Sky. I would like to thank the devs for stepping in and helping us with the problems. FTE raiding is very exiting and the most fun I have had playing EQ ever [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

That being said, now that things have improved why not improve them further by simulating patch day spawns so that we can experience even more heart pounding excitement as we race for the big targets on server restarts?

I know Aeolwind is not keen on this but he did say if things improved he might meet us half way, that offer still open homie?

The Dev's have commented on this. They have said that there will be no simulated patch day respawns, only because someone could intentionally crash the server/zone, and upon reboot, may trigger the respawns. This is IIRC btw.

I dont see why they cant make a switch and manually flip it when the patches occur though.

That is what I mean by simulated. Manually respawning the mobs while the server is locked.

They also said that raiding would never be First to Engage. Glad to see they changed their mind on that one!

Same. I have been advocating for this since day one (except I was never allowed to go against guild policy. *cough*)

Imo, FFA for everything, anything goes. May the best win. Sorry, dont mean to derail the thread.

I think the simulated part implies that it wouldn't actually require a server restart, thus negating the motive of crashing a zone to respawn things.

It does mean that staff would have to schedule time to jump to all the raid zones and repop everything once a month (or whatever the schedule would be), and I believe I last heard that they don't want to take the time to do that.

It'd just be a huge database REPLACE for the most part. You don't really need to go zone to zone toggling resetting qglobal and popping spawngroups manually. That'd be absolutely retarded. You could automate it if you so desired. It wouldn't be all that difficult to alter EQEMU source itself to do this on SIGVTALRM/SIGALARM or something and just send a killall with the appropriate signal to zone.
