If you need/want an item, just ask, you know, like a normal human being. And don't assume we all know what you need for your spells. Take some personal responsibility beyond a ranting post about your crappy tank who took a Peridot and got you killed.

The irony is, you call informing your group about this fact "debatable" but you'll come on these boards in a rant and then claim that all you wanted to do was educate people. Uh, hello? [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
Ahhh Knightmare [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

You seem to want to make this into some kind of rant...I never claimed to be a Master of the game. I said a student. I told a story, and it was true. I never ranted against anyone that they were not within their rights. Nor did I say that I was killed.

I feel that it is deplorable that you feel the need to inject venom into this conversation. However I do thank you for the information on the Iskar Pike quest #5. Hopefully someone will find this useful.

Honestly, up until this thread I thought that assuming everyone knew peridots were used for cleric symbols and enchanter runes was a pretty good assumption.

Boy was I wrong.

I had a friend who played a high end cleric classic back in the day. He said he would make over 1-2k profit a night just from gems in places like seb.

When scarabs had a 100% drop rate of nice gems, probably. I was in Seb for longer than I want to admit and splitting up the gems was still shy of 1k.

I made sick money on my ranger because of that.

The past couple 50+ groups there have been at least one dude ninja looting and not sharing with the group. The pattern seems to be foreigners. What's up with that? Anyways, peridots always go to clerics, and you should try to make an effort to make sure he's getting his fair share of loot to make up for the rest and some. If you experience what you just did, like I just did, you really need to say something, because people like that are going to take advantage of you if they can get away with it and just blame it on being stoned.

Peridots are pretty cheap. Like 210pp / stack. I usually roll with about 10 stacks. I never run out. I'm also awesome.

Even tho I need peridots for Manaskin (500ish pt rune w/ 1mana per tick) - as a WIZ I still give the 'dots to the CLR. And yes, I assume most people who play EQ have at LEAST a general understanding of the other classes. I've never played anything other than a WIZ, but I know all the reagents involved for the other classes just thru general gameplay.

As a side note, I never knew the correct pronunciation for peridot. I always thought of it as peri (like periscope) - dot (like polkadot). It's actually pronounced peri (like periscope) - doe (like bread dough). In my head though, I still think of it ending with a dot (hard to undo so many years of thinking like this) :-)
Both pronunciations are correct [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

And just because it's interesting:
Peridot's history begins on a small desert island 50 miles or so off the southeast coast of Egypt in the Red Sea. The name of the island has changed many times over recorded history. Ancient literature calls the island Topazion, sometimes referred to as Topazos, but it now goes by two names-- its most recent label, Zabargad, and its immediate past name of St. John's. "Zabargad" is the Arabic word for peridot, although the English word "peridot" is said to have com from "Faridat," the Arabic word for gem. Coming from "faridat" could account for the American Southwest's pronunciation of peridot as "PEAR-a-dot," instead of the more common pronunciation (taken from the French), "PEAR-a-doe."

Thanks! It was interesting to learn these details. While we're on this little side-rail (not a full derailing the thread) I had also mispronounced some the the various names in EQ such as Qeynos and Najena. I then read some posts back in the day from the devs or producers and learned how to properly pronounce the names (and some of the history behind the names). Always interesting to learn little details..
