Per http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=14957, sprockets are supposed to be 1p 4gp. On P1999 they are 7p 4g 1s 7cp

If you read the comments posted at the page you've linked, it would seem our server's prices are correct.

edit: However, one very real issue with tinkering is that it's basically impossible to start, since metal twine cannot be bought in game yet. There is a thread discussing this on page two, but no devs have responded to it yet.
