Abacab, strong work yet again! I liked your cartoon, I think it captures the essence of being a member of DA, albiet with a certain dash of hyperbole thrown in to make it hilarious. Well done.

Depends on what you want I guess.

In IT many places would much prefer their Cisco admins to have a CCIE over a Masters in MIS or whatever they call it now.

Same with say - a Unix Admin. Experience means a LOT there, as it takes very little and just one wrong move to hose up a Unix server

rm -r /

oops.

So it just might depend. I never did finish college personally. Ended up party-ing too much after High School and having kids too early. But I guess tenacity and experience made up for a lot of it. That being said, I'd still like to go back and get at least a four year degree. But in a way I'm hesitant - I don't ever want to manage people, I've done that before and it sucks.

Managing machines - for me - is a lot, lot more rewarding and I'm better at it. I'm too laid-back to manage people. Seems like anyone in IT with more than an undergrad degree are all MBA's.

100% Cisco admin is way more valuable than a graduate degree. There are things you NEED a cisco admin to do for legal reasons. You don't even have to show up to an interview to get 6 figures with that designation.

Grad school... pshh means nothing unless you are already high up in a company. I got my job over someone with a grad degree 1 year after graduating with my undergrad because I had a years experience at a brokerage firm. That 1 year gave me more knowledge of how things work than he got from books.

Summer school is never for the smart kids. It is usually for the gamers/flunkers that don't want to get an internship or go the social route and travel.

Either you get excited that real school is out and you can take 1 or two classes, pretend to be productive, and sit around and play a game 24/7 or you are trying to make up time because you took too few hours or flunked out of too many classes the semester before.
Friend of mine took summer classes three years in a row. He graduated in three years with a triple major within the FSU College of Business and immediately got a job making $80,000 per year upon graduation.

What a freaking idiot/loser.

I mean, I guess it depends on what you want - but I think you open yourself to a higher level of opportunity with most graduate degrees. With a Cisco or CFA certificate you'll get a job, but you limit yourself to a job in the respective fields. You can do just about anything with a MBA or JD though.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to hate on professional certificates - I think they're great if that is what you want to do. I just think that saying they're hands down more valuable than a graduate degree is kind of silly.
